Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

CEO bad decisions result in everyone else suffering

Lay offs to multi millionaire CEO's and VP's may not seem a big deal... as no matter how they perform, they always get a huge payout and another role. Nike's current performance is largely due to the CEO's poor strategy (CDA / CDO) and has resulted in yet more layoffs and redundancies... once again the average worker is sacrificed with the bare minimum of benefits, discarded to try find some other way to feed their families. If you work at Nike- you are more than ever, JUST A NUMBER. Nike does not care- Nike has no heart.

Nike’s decline started long before JD or RAT joined. Lack of leadership from prior leaders - no innovation, too much pretend wokeness (no real change in the company or community) and no real strategy.

At the end of the day it comes down to culture… culture is built from the top… even if the fault is not 100% JD’s fault, we need a infusion of energetic and smart leaders who know how to lead Nike into the future…

Agree with everything except “the bare minimum of benefits” for laid off employees. Nike’s severance packages are comparatively generous to what you’ll find at many other companies.

If you want to know what “the bare minimum” looks like ask my husband. When he got laid off 2 years ago with no prior notice after 7 years at another company he got his final pay check and the balance of unused vacation time. That was it. There was no actual severance paid. So yeah, I wouldn’t call what Nike offers “the bare minimum”. The bare minimum is nothing!

What did you expect when hire a management consultant? Most of us who have worked with these types know deep down they really understand or care to understand. They are full it it. They are devoid of true content and insights. They are all about billing hours. It’s easy to make strategy if you don’t have to live with it.

The narcissist announces layoffs before holiday time then laughs at all the minions (us) stressing and scrambling for MONTHS afterward.

And in that, he feels his power.

Sicko.

He has su-ked the soul out of the company. It now resembles him. Soulless. Bland. Done.

Agree that Nike's current woeful state is largely the fault of Donahoe and his complicit senior leader henchmen. JD is not salvageable. He is neither a product or people person. And he has shown no ability to learn, adapt or evolve. As a servant leader, his primary focus is 'servicing' his own ego and bank account. Three years ago, he forced an unneeded layoff by implementing his faulty CDA strategy which has now unfortunately led to a required round of severe reductions.

At this point, though, pressure needs to be placed on the Board of Directors. They know that both company performance and morale are at an all-time low. Why are they not taking action and showing Donahoe the door? A change in leadership is required NOW. Bring back Elliott or Eric (or better yet both).
