What’s been your experience with the job search lately? I’ve been looking for months, and honestly, I’m open to creative ideas and stepping well outside my comfort zone. I won’t go into praising or bashing Ford. I’m just personally burned out after years here that led nowhere. On top of that, I’m flat-out bored with my job. Maybe it’s not the best timing for a change, but I need one badly.

@26y I had one very good one about 7 months back - thinking things were getting better I stayed around, regrets...
The 911,000 job loss revision announced recently....it was private sector jobs. The only jobs added in the last year are government jobs and health care (which heavily relies on government spending). I've been job hunting very hard for six months and with 20 years of experience, not even an interview. I would love to leave Ford as it is truly a rotten toxic, rotten culture and a terrible place to work....but is is a VERY tough job market and hyper competitive right now.
@16x Some people here are disturbingly manipulative for no reason when you mean good faith. If you’re ready to leave, they may fake concern to bait you into staying, only to sabotage you later.
They might offer something and pretend to make it come true just long enough for you to miss your exit window. And once you’ve shown your hand, you can become a target.
Some people are just going through this kind of situation for the first time. It's not d-mb for them to trust. They don’t know better yet. When someone’s never been burned before, it’s natural to take people at their word.
What starts as wanting to leave can quickly turn into defending your character and reputation, while that original offer to stay was simply just manipulation by cruel people.
Before, they'd applaud for initiative, once you're a target, they'll call that same thing "going rogue". They'll get in your head and question your loyalty and claim that you have a second job.
This isn't a Mach e - you're not trapped, the exit door is unlocked.
Job market is in a frozen state, fake unemployment stats and propaganda - Nobody is hiring, If you have less than 15 years .... it is f s==t.
Chances are less you'll need to relocate if you are willing to leave automotive. If you aren't....we'll good luck to you. Your competition will overtake you if you don't expand your options and grow.
Seriously...you think anything on LinkedIn is anything but posturing and phony people? Get a grip. LinkedIn is about the most phony trash out there. People trying to relate car accidents to scrum standups...its just downright ridiculous. I get d-mber everything is have to check it.
Pay attention to feelings of fear and uncertainty. This can look like subtle reminders to employees that they are replaceable, using vague performance metrics to keep them anxious. Ask for specifics. Some signs this is intentional are frequent reorganizations, shifting performance goals, or indirect threats about “market conditions" (like the first comment on this thread, though it sounds real). Document your achievements, clarify expectations with supervisors, and build skills that enhance mobility in the job market.
@f9 How is this possible? I always see such great news on my LinkedIn nonstop by the presumed movers and shakers of Michigan? Nonstop updates, initiatives etc. the likes on those posts go wild too!
@OP unless you are willing to relocate, it is very hard to find a job
I just saw a documentary that Michigan has the 8th worst economy in the U.S. Another downturn like 2008 and we're doomed.
@OP. Job market su-ks and there is a lot of competition. Your resume may be tossed aside by AI. See if you can acquire or refresh a wanted skill. Just keep looking. Your job at Ford, sooner or later, will be eliminated.
There are more jobs outside of Michigan. Its still a tough market there too, but not as bad as Michigan. Spending in Michigan of any kind is worse than other states in my opinion.
There are always good jobs for good people.
As mentioned, the job market is terrible. A lot of ghost jobs and outright scams especially on LinkedIn.
Look outside of SE MI.
It is not a good time to find a job. The market is full of ghost positions and uncertainty. It will be 5 years before it resolves. Ford will have 500 extra recalls in 2030.
