Nike is likely one of the companies with the most polished speakers, especially in brand, strategy, and GM roles. They present with the confidence and flair of actors, delivering passionate speeches for hours. But there is always zero substance underneath.

@ey+1jp8x55mm lol, so true. It’s also all about the ability to just say “YES!” to upper management and telling them only what they want to hear, downplaying risks, and bending truths to spin positive narratives. There’s no attention or time spent on actual action plans that drive true growth or value for the consumer.
The number one thing you need to get promoted is the ability to create a fancy slide deck.
I wasn’t a professional self promoter and speaker, just wanted to get things done. Got laid off on last round. Oh well. This is not the place for people who are good at what they do, it’s an extension of college fraternity and sorority culture.
It’s crazy how the culture here has shifted. Now it feels like people who just talk good game are the ones getting promoted, even if they have no real understanding of sport, product, or how to deliver real results. The leaders above me barely know anything about sport or product, and if that wasn’t bad enough, they also lack technical expertise in their own functions because they’ve been jumping between teams every couple of years.
What value are these leaders actually bringing if they don’t have functional knowledge, don’t get sport, and don’t care about the product? At least in the past, leaders were either deeply passionate or highly knowledgeable in one of those areas. Now? It feels like they’re missing all of it. The outlook for Nike is grim with this kind of leadership, so I’m steering clear of holding any stock until I see some serious changes at the top.
It’s funny how they also try to dress like cool kids but we all know they were dorks in uni
Who are they trying to convince?
Or they have just the right dose of narcissism to hoist a tennis racket like they’re vying for a Grand Slam—minus the talent, but with twice the bravado (as seen in image 5/6)

Very true....
Nike hire people that are great at saying stuff vs doing stuff 🤷♂️
Ok
True, actors galore…
