Any thoughts on this? Let’s all have a open discussion without calling each other id--ts and names.

Moderna is not mandating the vaccine for their employees.

@1ciz+1eMazSes - the timing is IMHO purely legal CYA. I'll explain:

Any lingering workers who remained after January 15th who are/were...

  1. (legal term:) coerced to take the vax by threat of job loss, and
  2. then alter suffers severe medical damages later that
  3. can be credibly traced to having taken said vax...

...would have strong standing to sue the company. Anyone in such a place on 1/15 and prior means that Nike can point to OSHA (and Oregon OHA/OSHA/Brown) and claim they were only following government direction "in good faith", which provides a pretty good shield against liability... not perfect, but very strong and they'd be right.

However, since 1/15, with no lingering unvaxed workers on the payroll, and a demand that only vaxed workers get hired from that point on? This leaves no one would can credibly sue Nike for vax damages later down the road.

Thought this article was interesting:

What I’m worried about with these mandatory shots, is that the shots will be used to force you to get the vax passport and then the passport will be used as a social credit score, like that used in China. The social credit score will then be used to force a global digital currency. The global currency will be controlled by the Government and this gives the Government 100% control over your life. I don’t want the Government to have that much control over my medical decisions. Nike has a lot of influence especially in Oregon, so when we’re all required to show our papers to eat, Nike will be to blame. I hope I’m wrong.

Intel has dropped their mandate, but I’m sure all the scientists at Nike know what’s best for all their employees.

Has anyone who is impacted by this received the confirmation of Termination other than the initial letter?

@2lsn, that is false claim, 100%. Both my SrDr and my VP are vaccinated with a booster as well. That was your opinion, not a fact.

@1dyf I hope you aren’t right but I’m afraid you probably are. One of my colleagues works with the return to campus team and he says Nike is really eager to get everyone back on campus asap. As soon as daily Covid cases in Oregon get to a certain level it’ll be game on. The trend in other countries is that after an omicron surge case levels go down sharply. Mostly because at that point everyone who is going to get Covid will have gotten it. I also see that happening locally in late February. We’ll get our 1 month warning in March and sometime in April we’ll all be back on campus eating overpriced cafeteria food Tues-Thur. I’m going to miss working from home. Having to go to campus everyday is a huge time suck.

None of you are scientists or doctors. If you’re not smart enough to get vaccinated, know that no one wants to sit next to an anti-science, unvaccinated person.

Bad publicity for Nike. Athletes in general are against the vax anyways since it supposedly impairs the hear and hence, impairs athletic performance.

Do people really think Nike is going to reverse course on their stance? This ruling has nothing to do with it. Nike can do what Nike wants.

I don’t even see it opening the door for lawsuits.

Is it a coincidence that Nike quickly announced the firings this morning, mere hours before the SCOTUS made their ruling official?

Nike, as a private business, can still enforce whatever mandates they want to. This ruling just gives aggrieved Nike workers some legal ground to stand on if they want to band together and file a lawsuit against their employer.

In my opinion, it's only a matter of time before COVID becomes another virus like the common flu, where you probably get it once a year and the worst that happens (if you are healthy) is you miss a few days of work. In the meantime, if you are vaccinated your odds of landing in the hospital are smaller. If you are not vaccinated you definitely could be SOL, but if you make it through you will eventually reach a level of immunity where it will affect you as if you got the vaccine.

I really wish Nike would wait until next year to bring everyone back so what I wrote above is more likely. It just feels like it's too soon right now. I'm sure they can work with the state of Oregon to remedy whatever tax implications might happen. It's not like Nike is hurting for money.

@ekq, spring or summer?? Omicron will end just as quickly as it began and by the end of February or early March the pandemic phase of Covid will be officially over. I’ll guarantee we’ll be back on campus no later than April 1.

Woke Nike will push ahead with it, as most employees on campus are covid cult members.
