Gotta love H1B workers.
Someone advocates for them, shares how they’re getting sc--wed, and they scream “Don’t change the system!”.

Last year the US took on thousands more NEW H1B than new tech jobs were added to the market (and of course kept all the existing visas despite a contracting job market)
Companies (like Nike) use all sorts of illegal tactics to bring on H1B labor. From fake job requirements to Google itself “posting” jobs that can only be applied to by physical mail sent to a specific address that only their chosen applicant knows about.
To say nothing about the fraud on the H1B applicant side. An applicant can (and does) apply to the lottery multiple times, they simply have to hire a firm that submits their application through hundreds of pass-through “consulting” firms. Don’t take my word for it, look up the numerous times our State Department has told India to knock it off over the last few years.
And why wouldn’t companies love H1B? Tech H1B get paid 20% below the market rate on average (proponents love adding Medical H1B stats to bring the average wage up). And any H1B that get hired are unable to find a new job without a backbreaking amount of luck and hard work.
@ @edc+1tLaCiy1 - First of all, H1B visa employees are so highly educated in the hi tech field you’d never find them competing with you for retail jobs. And by the way, you can only get a H1B visa because no one else has that qualification in the domestic market, the govt keeps tabs on this - very closely. Now, like anything else this can be abused but for the most part it is highly H1b visas are highly controlled and regulated , specialized field….so do your research before generalizing
H1Bs must be smart. So they won’t take retail gigs.

H1B visa must satisfy very specific circumstances so it won't be abused by employers.
