Thread regarding Fiserv Inc. layoffs

I'm still angry

I'm still angry at Fiserv, months after I left. The company lives rent-free in my head and it's driving me insane that I can't let go. I just can't stomach the injustice of it all and how I was dismissed without a second thought after giving the company two decades of my loyalty and hard work. Maybe once I find a new job things will change, or I can only hope so.

I’ve worked for Fiserv for 10 years and 30 in technology and I have NEVER received a bad review. This year to my utter shock I got a “needs improvement”. I am flabbergasted as I feel it is completely unjustified after working my bu-t off this past year putting in a lot of new processes for improvement. I’ve worked for first data in the past and I know how they operate, someone needs to get a “needs improvement”. My leader just put me on the lay off list. My utter shock cane from this review coming out of left field. Not at any point in 2022 was anything ever vocalized to me that there was an issue. This is why I feel it’s a set up for the next round and someone had to get picked...I guess that was me but they will feel the sting when I leave becuase no one will be able to compensate for my work. Sad situation.

You aren't alone! We give more to our jobs then we do our spouses at times. If you have a deceitful spouse that doesn't value you and values money more than family yet you have been in the fight for a long time and only getting scraps, then they leave you for someone else (and often someone uglier) you are going to be pretty angry and that rage takes a while to dissipate.
Thats what Fiserv has done to their employees. Its a bad relationship with narcissist. Best contact with a narc is no relationship. I know it is hard but you deserve peace and something better. Try to not look back.

We need a support group, don't we? I feel the exact same way. I'm bitter that I had no choice but to leave as I would have been let go for not relocating to work in an office with no coworkers in that location anyway.

As for the 6 months is guidance you can announce retirement at any time. Fiserv MAY at 6 months pay a pro-rated COBRA sum but as even with a voluntary separation one is still entitled to COBRA that's the law.

Six months notice to retire is ludicrous…they would snap you in a heartbeat…so voluntary termination will have to work

I quit myself leaving this place after 15 years of service in 2 months, I am the same like you and my colleagues this toxic place will sit in your head for the next 6 months that is what i heard from my colleagues who left on their own or were fired. We just need to grow up and realize to company employees are disposable garbage.

If you're thinking of cutting bait, be sure to read the "new improved" retirement requirements. To officially retire and get/eat your cake, you have to give 6 months notice of intent. Otherwise, it's just a voluntary termination.

I hear you. I was initially angry which turned into disappointment. Disappointed that i meant nothing to a company I felt would take me into retirement. I loved my job, my team, and I was proud to say I worked for Fiserv for close to 20 years. But the last two years? I was anything but proud. Frank and team have truly done a remarkable job on destroying employee morale. Personally, I have moved on, thankfully, but the bitter knot will be there for awhile. I hope you can find some peace within so you can also move on as well. You deserve that peace.

Landing a new job will definitely be a confidence booster but until then, give time time. You can be p!ssed off every day if you like. But also, give yourself some grace. A new door will be opening soon, so be ready!

Here is my advice after being laid off from time to horrible time. Take a walk in the woods, good walking trail and you can curse to the Gods and nobody will think you insane. Second, knock down dead trees. Excellent anger therapy and you are helping nature. Come to think of it, this practice can and should be done in any job you have that is a living nightmare. Good luck.

In this job climate ---'stretch, I have seen so many people that have left Fiserv and they appear to have landed in a better role. Green lights and blue skies to you.

PS don't underestimate the value of working your connections. People want to help others and former Fiserv associates know how deplorable the place has gotten.

Sorry you are having trouble getting over this and all the best in finding a new job.

That said, in the current climate (heck, in the business climate of the past 15 years), why were you expecting justice and loyalty or some other trade off for hard work?

Jobs or even careers no longer take place within one company, and employees need to keep their skills sharp and their ear to the ground, moving on when it looks like things are heading south, usually after a few years. This is true usually at all levels of a company. If you stay longer... fine, but don't expect anything in return.

It is not a matter of right or wrong, this is just what IS. It's what it is.

You are not going to find a new job or career until you get over your bitterness and disillusionment. You need to find a way to process it and move past it so you can get settled again and by all means, never have those expectations again and learn to recognize the signs of a job going south, and develop more realistic expectations and career planning.

If you need career counseling, coaching or even therapy to put this in the past, you should do so. It's a bummer you got dismissed but you have to find a way to get over it.

Good luck to you.

I gave a decade as well, and no one cared when i left. I would just forgive, forget and move on. Fiserv is a garbage company now, and it is being run into the ground.

JH, if you're reading this, shame on you. I hope once you get rid of all of us, it's your turn to go through the same thing.

I was laid off, my guess is because of my age but I can't prove it.

If you don't mind my asking, what reason did they provide for firing you? Sorry if it's personal.
