Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

June 13th

Many of us in the Leg T contract hope to be surplussed on the next announcement date of June 13th. We'll gladly take our up to 104 weeks pay and just move on. Everyone knows the phoney watermark number is meaningless and the company can and will do what they want whenever they want so many of us techs will be happy to leave.

@vq Quite the opposite Egg Head......Southwestern bell was the bo-b then they bought Pac bell and became Sbc, and it was still a good company until they bought old raggedy A$$ AT&T with its useless management pool, (that they should have fired) that's when it went to he11 in a hand basket!!!
Get your facts straight!!
Old At&t was done back in late 2006

Wait til you get moved to one of the mobility contracts. You'll go from 104 weeks pay to 4. That's when you'll get laid off lol.

Used to love working for ATT and be proud to say it! Now, I hate this company ever since SBC destroyed it and am embarrassed to admit it! My days are numbered, only a few months left til my last day!

It's kinda f'n funny working at a place where so many of us WANT to be laid off and we sit around laughing about it.

The watermark is indeed a joke. Proof of that is we are several hundred workers below that number and there's nothing in the contract language that states what the penalty or remedy shall be. Thus there's nothing we can do about it other than attempt mediation which is also a joke of a stall tactic. Therefore, the watermark is phoney.

The Legacy-T watermark isn’t phony. It’s the reason why a lot of you useless NTS id--ts in the OOR space still have a job, even though you don’t have any work to do (real work at least and not that “phony” self-gen cr-p you fabricate all day)

The negatively disrespectful f'n little d00shbag who cried "Buckle up for a slow death" has zero understanding of business accounting and HR logic nor the fact that we all can be viewed as being on a track to someday die however that small and pathetic pos is likely a tiny smelly weakling with a shallow mind who is emotionally unhealthy and truly needs help.

There are numerous reasons why the company benefits from getting rid of high seniority workers, and VTP is merely a tool to legally do such. Recipients tend to be the oldest workers and getting them off the Org's payroll in 30 days is a financial priority. The VTP payout comes from a different bucket of money which the Org doesn't care about, thus VTP has always been used to shed old timers. Many of us techs would happily accept the VTP and just move on. Otherwise we'll just continue to happily hang out at work until they do inevitably lay us off.

The company is managing layoff costs very carefully. If your legally due the 104 weeks then it’s very likely you won’t be laid off. This was the intent of the agreement to create stronger job security. It is a strong deterrent against layoff.

"Article 25 is the general table up to 104 weeks"

Has anyone actually received the 2 years severance?

@dz
Article 25 is the general table up to 104 weeks, each job title has their own article and if the termination payments are different -for instance NTS mentioned below- article 43 has a modification to the termination payments - the most they get is 50 weeks

There is also the JOG addendum. Anyone hired prior to June something 2015 prior to layoff gets opportunity for any open cwa position

Unfortunately a lot of the newer hired NTS (children of existing employees with no technical backgrounds) wont take the time to read the contract and articles pertinent to them and are letting management walk all over them.
If any surplus I'm sure they will be the first to go with no JOG

So what article holds the severance table for the other job titles?
L4 had a surplus in 2022 or 2023

There hasn’t been an offer for Leg T NTS’s in 20 years, although there may have been some for other job titles. Those with the grandfathered job titles who were Comm Tech’s before 2005 are the only NTS’s eligible for the 104 week VTP.

104 weeks is in the contract for anyone with 30 years

up to 104 weeks pay

You are dreaming. Why would the company ever pay this much to lay you off? You would be lucky to get that much in a wrongful termination suit. Cheaper to make you quit or phony up a reason to fire you.

There's been at least five VTP offers in the past dozen years in the Leg T/CWA contract for various titles. And every time it seems everyone adamantly says it will never happen again however that's using too much logic. Accountants see it differently. It's likely to selectively happen again on June 13th as a win/win/win deal.

"Wrong, wrong wrong...Leg T gave a VTP offers in September of 2017 because I was one of the recipients!"

You are still checking these boards? WTAF?

I think the company would be unable to declare surpluses or offer VTPs in a title that is below the watermark. That's different from not hiring to offset normal attrition.

Wrong, wrong wrong...Leg T gave a VTP offers in September of 2017 because I was one of the recipients! I did not accept it at the time because I was not ready to leave at the time. I was in the west out of region area of the country. VTPs are offered when you're least expecting. So, never say never!

Leg T hasn’t had a VTP offer for those types of techs in 20 years. That ship sailed a long time ago.

Not 100k or 50k. Only 2 weeks of severance pay

We're all viewed as replaceable and expendable - merely numbers on spreadsheets targeted for cut - whether we're management or craft, and the bottom line is that the craft termination package is much better than management severance.

I find it hard to believe the company will pay over 200k when they can layoffs a manager for 50k
