RTO in January 2026

We were told today RTO will be 5 days in January 2026. Can anyone in HR confirm this? What about remote workers? Will they be required to relocate near a corporate office (i.e. LA or NY) or will exceptions be made for some?

I am not surprised David is doing this sh-t. Jeff Shell and their donors are old school and think you have to see someone in person to get deals done. It is laughable since most of his high level talks about the company sale took him place via zoom. LOL.

I’ll go in for a few virtual calls and then head back—doing remote work from the office instead of Starbucks, with added complexity and zero productivity in results.

In my function some people just moved away and worked full-remote not even asking, forget got permission. And no consequences. They all had one thing in common. Take a guess.

What about SVP and above? Really Hoping my department leader opts in.

Without enforcement, teams already working from home will exploit this. That’s fine for them, but many won’t have the same option, creating a frustrating resentment for those who give up their time and money commuting.

Will severance be the same as it is for employees who are laid off?

It's definitely clear from reading that email that they are planning to see who opts in for severance from the NY and LA offices before finalizing the layoff list for November.

@fb agree and spot on for reminding us on C level. Each floor has their perception of things. I am not high up on the ladder for c-level hellos

@f3 they were building out a tech floor but it was put on hold in January. I assume the plans will move forward. Not sure what your C level comment means. We have two C levels one on 11 and one on 12 and I see them all the time talking to people. I do agree the floor is garbage.

If you make us RTO then make 1515 broadway a place you want to work. It’s a horrific location and cr-ppy building. Horrible facilities.

Tech is split on 11 and 12. Closed spaces, no brainstorming rooms, no leadership at C-level walking the floors or talking to anyone.

I have constant zoom meetings with folks on the 12th floor while I am on 11th floor. I can do that at home. Reason being there are not enough conference rooms

Make an open space with zero offices like every tech company. More huddle rooms. Make the tools and space to work better than my home!!!

Make sure lunch doesn’t cost 25$ per sandwich.

If they’re really going to enforce 5days a week RTO, I hope that DE will work with his dad to allow us to use the oracle offices. That would make it a lot easier for many of us who don’t live by the three main locations (SF, LA, NY). There are so many Oracle offices across the country that would make RTO much more doable for people.

Many in streaming IT are as good as gone if they implement mandatory RTO. This company is not worth for me commuting for them. Far better IT jobs out there that are fully WFH. I’m looking as if I was already ordered to RTO.

I think they will keep employee hubs in cities like Boston, Denver, and Austin to match Oracle locations, while keeping LA and NY offices. If you are one of those cities, you probably have or will have an office to go into. If you are not in one of those cities with a work hub... bye, bye bye

@dx You are somewhat correct. The rumor is people who are fully remote will have more time than January.

Earlier this year, there was a rumor that all would soon be RTO; that soon was cleared up and not true for all of streaming, which is mostly remote workers.

I have also heard that at that time, they would target remote workers and contractors for layoffs. Even if they met their $3 million recovery in layoffs, there would still be too many Streaming WFH employees in LA and probably NY to fit into the current workspaces.

I foresee RTO policies returning, but it is not yet enabled to start for all in Jan.

@d0 RTO will be in January and the cuts happen in November so the space issue should clear up.

heard same - only question was some LA offices didn't have the room for five dayers -everything was sold - wondered if layoffs would make the room or people would be given remote status or if they would lease a new building they are showing they can spend money when they want to ..
most streaming- not tech - was always remote .. anyone hear about them specifically

@cq Backing it up? You will get an email tomorrow or Friday. Then come back and tell me I was wrong. I am in HR. The only details that are not clear are what happens to remote workers.

Yeah somebody from HR is going to respond to this lol.. how many people do you think are following these posts to begin with ? If you look at views on these - there may be as high as 1,600 views, many of which are former employees & others who even know about this site. If anybody from HR is viewing - do you think they'd answer? They have no need to even be here, they know all the info & wouldn't even know all our this site. Only managers might know of this site to share information or misinformation

I have posted this year before. A note will go out soon to all employees. Requiring you to sign off that you will go back to the office five days a week starting in January. If you do not sign off, you will be terminated. Remote workers will have to return to an office. This is what happens when Redbird is using their outdated archaic playbook. These clowns have no idea how to run a media company. I am surprised David is going along with it.
