Thread regarding Follett layoffs

How are rush preparations?

Curious how everyone is holding up right now with preparations for Fall Rush? Thoughts and feelings?

They had people managers. And guess what... they actually knew how to do their job too. IMAGINE THAT....
Way to go JRC. Save a little, to lose alot. Awesome plan!

10% OMG!!!
That is a nightmare waiting to happen. Especially with this new restructure. No way can one person be chasing down missing adoptions. And yes, while you could say faculty were given a due date and its all on them, you are correct. But we also know the after effects...

  1. Sales will be down. If you do not have the books on the shelf when needed, they will shop elsewhere.
  2. Faculty will be screaming come the first day of classes and students do not have material. again you could justify it was their own fault, but damage will be done.
  3. Parents will be upset after paying all that tuition and students are unable to purchase the materials they need to succeed.
  4. Students will be upset when they are unable to complete their assignments due to lack of material.

Yes. On top of inexperienced staff...the bookstore mgr/ campus lead will be the 1st place these people will turn for answers. Hearing "sorry, that wasn't my job" is not going to fly. Best of luck all :)

The ironic part is I keep hearing upper management saying they were hiring people managers and everything else is teachable. BUT:

  1. Who are the people being managed when labor is minimal?
  2. Who are going to train said "people managers" when all the knowledge is gone?

I believe Course Materials is upping the 100% QTC deadline to beat the possible UPS strike. So expect a whole lot of textbooks to come in with all the GM.

Post ID: @dvv+1nELWQRr = You NAILED it! I wonder if we have the same RM.

Should be interesting getting ready for rush if UPS strikes. Absolutely nothing we can do about it. Maybe the low adoption rates will not matter if we cannot get in the inventory.

Post ID: @dvv+1nELWQRr - Don't worry because Follett has all the underpaid former Macy's employees that REALLY know how to handle merchandise like nobody's business. AND you have the low paid new store management that has never worked in a book store before but they are great people managers - except it's difficult to manage untrained temp help when YOU don't know how to do the job!
Don't worry, JRC is proving to their investors how smart they are!
Go Spirit Shop!
What could go wrong????

Whats Rush????? RUSH IS HE-L ON EARTH. GOOD LUCK TO ALL. AND AS FAR AS MERCHANDISE COMMING IN FULL THROTTLE, YOU NEED TO GET IT UP BECAUSE WHEN THOSE ONLINE ORDERS START COMMING IN YOU DONT WANT TO BE GOING THROUGH BOX'S LOOKING FOT FOR MERCH TO FILL THOSE ORDERS.

Well with untrained temps(thank god) and one manager rush should be the final nail in the coffin. Adoption rate is below ten per cent cuz the one in charge is over burdened. Store still jammed with GM and arrivals increasing. Not sure when the camel’s back will break.
