Just trying to figure out WHY? Closing old campus, laying off thousands of employees just to build and open up NEW campuses.

Yep. I'm in the north TX area and already asked internally. There will be facility consolidations; if you're in this area, get ready because you will be moving/have to drive to the new location in Irving come late 2025 or so -- whenever they finish it.
lolz, I've lived in 3 different liberal Meccas in the US and I will never, ever live their again. Texas has been a much much better experience for me. If you don't like it, Cali is that way, you're free to leave and most of the state probably hopes you do.
While wells was having the ground breaking ceremony Charlie and Greg were smiling for pictures while holding gold plated shovels from trucked in red dirt from Cali….they are laying off and firing higher earners while replacing them with people from Manila. After the 865 billion $$ buildings are done they will rehire at a lower pay all while getting huge tax breaks from Irving and the state.

Texas would be ok if they could at least learn how to cook a steak.
Having worked in 3 "progressive" states and Texas, as an employee I much prefer Texas over the others. The progressive states aren't so much "employee friendly" as they are "business unfriendly" not to mention ridiculous cost of living + taxes taxes taxes. Granted TX has not so pleasant property tax, but can't win everything. TX is a right to work state, but we can still form unions if we "choose" (and some have).
Texas is a toilet bowl state for the workplace.
Tax incentives and abysmal labor laws. Beware of companies who don't give a sh!te about employee protections. WF and Tesla (Muskrat) are classic examples.

Total ghost town in Irving. We have a couple pockets of employees in overly micromanaged Auto groups on John Carpenter Prkway (mosty risk and bankruptcy), but that’s it. A bunch of Auto underwriters got severed yesterday (not my group unsure of the numbers). I’m doing my time like everyone else until my number is up, they manage me out, or I finally snap and leave on my own.

I do. It’s an ABSOLUTE farce and a waste of 3 days of my week. I work in corporate risk for auto. I’m the only one in my peer group/workflow in Texas (everyone else is in Manila if that says anything). My management is all 10 to 15 years younger and loves buzzwords and sucking up without really doing or saying anything of consequence (all bark no bite). Corporate America needs a homeland. This is it, I guess?🤦🏻♂️

They can give all the border jumpers jobs and hire the illegals for nothing. This will become the American India.
At the rate of our H1B hiring, reported for year 2021 only. Texas is already number 2 highest number of H1B visas.

Tax incentives mostly, but also Texas doesn’t have the same employee friendly labor laws that more progressive states like California or New York. I would probably look for a lot more movement to Texas in general. I work in corporate risk in Irving and am constantly amazed and disappointed by the predatory attitude of companies and management in the area. Texas is an absolute armpit when it comes to treating people with dignity. We don’t even get pizza parties.
