Internal Audit current work environment and RTO?

What is the current work environment like in IA and what is the RTO enforcement like? I imagine it's like most areas of the bank these days, where people are overloaded with work, but curious if some teams are worse than others in that regard. How is IA managing the 3 days in office (closely monitoring, tracking it just by if you were there at all or actually tracking total hours in office etc)?

I always go 3 times a week. But I've done the badge in, badge out; I've done one hour, two hours and three hours in the office and none were flagged, yet .

They look at 4 week and 13 week rolling averages. No hours in the office tracking or which day either (weekends count). The 13 week average will get you in trouble if it is below 3 days. TBH - it's not bad at all.

IA was strict about in office even prior to the whole post covid RTO debacle , nothing has changed. Also, culture in audit has always been bad. Again, nothing has changed.

Why would a manager make something they aren’t actually allowed to cite as the reason for a layoff the deciding factor? Unless they actually really care if you’re in the office beyond the badge swipes it takes to keep them from having to deal with it? I know my manager certainly doesn’t care about that. I really feel for people who have managers that care about anything other than them doing their work well.

They may not be formally counting hours in the office but trust when I say many LOBs have that data and are looking at hours in the office (logged in not just badged in) and they are using the info for those people who are not there 4+ hours a day as names on their layoff lists. Retaliation and underhanded shyt is commonplace at this company, and it is EXTREMELY hard to prove, but I know first hand this is happening. When a manager is on the fence about 2 people being let go, this information is often the deciding factor.

the monitoring for the "at least 3 days per week on average" is very, very strict

per the many posts about this, nobody is tracking hours in the office yet. there are all sorts of labor reg issues with tracking/enforcing hours for exempt staff so I don't think they will go there anytime soon.

But individual managers may be informally "monitoring" for "professional" behavior of not doing the coffee badging thing. Of course they can only do that if they are physically in the same location, or mostly work with video calls

This is going to be very team specific. Some just want you not to be on the report and do not care otherwise and some will walk a floor at 3pm to see who is in the office. Culture in Audit is also specific to the team and the leader. There is generally a pretty good culture but there are pockets that bleed people because of poor leadership. There is a lot of work, yes.
