Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike is growth company--- On the offense, Always!

PHK, I remember being bussed to Portland and captivated by your plea for our forgiveness as you took ownership and said that "we had lost our way and it was your fault". As you did, folks around me yelled that it was not your fault but you emotionally explained that you made a mistake in hiring the CEO and then you proceeded to roll out the maxims.

You believed in our ability to grow your company and we were inspired and did it. Over the last several years we have been on our back foot. Cutting innovation and running scared to start Covid and now cutting 2 billion dollars in costs is screaming that our leaders don't believe in these two maxims anymore.

I was embarrassed by the lack of professionalism in our last Global All Hands, but Nike's ELT needs to trust us to grow the company. Here are several actions that need to be taken and announced in an All Hands meeting in the next couple of weeks because even we stalwarts are losing faith in Nike doing the right thing.

  1. Ensure Employees that PTO as we know it is not going away!!
  2. Double or triple the service awards- Value those who still believe in Nike
  3. Trust us to WFH Mondays and Fridays
  4. ELT needs to announce a 50% pay cut for themselves and stop phase 2 of the layoff.
  5. Double down on innovation and key sporting events like the Paris Olympics.
  6. Ensure that the next % strategy is 95% focused on growing our way out of our situation and being on the offense. Please trust and believe in us and the NIKE Brand and we will deliver.

Just Do It!!!

Get off the wfh on Monday kick already! PHK wants everyone on campus 5 days a week. He did build that place not to be used and when Nike was winning we all went to work and no complained. Take you Friday and move on.

The ELT could of course take stock options that would pay their missed salary at the end of the 3 years if the next % strategy is so brilliant.

Either way, he took ownership and it hit his wallet rather than ours. What is your point on this pushback? Are you defending the cutting back on innovation and the uninspired strategy to cut 2 billion dollars? Why are you so set on not asking more of our leaders? Are you just defeated and have no hope?

Did Mark Parker not take a huge pay cut? Yes, leaders in corporate America can take ownership and accountability and do the right thing. It does happen! Not sure why you have such low expectations for your leaders. Expect more and you will get more.

Ok, somebody woke up on the wrong side of the bed. Union? Really, after being on a management team that fought off a union here at Nike in the early 2000s. Would never want to join a union.

Please consider reading the speed of trust. Working only 3 days a week in the office would allow me and many others to continue sharing a car with our wife/husband. 4 days in the office is a tipping point and we will need to buy another car. What a waste of our world's resources. Many people are way more productive WFH. Embrace diversity, we don't all work the same. Outcomes my friend is what we are after..

@dpo you sound like someone who doesn't know what they're talking about.

Want growth? Invest in your people, respect them, REWARD them. THAT is the right area to motivate. Human beings react well to this stuff, go figure. Root out ineffective people taking advantage, that's the actual problem.

Your idea of unions is weird af if that's what you took away from op. Btw unionized crews getting sh-t done don't like lazy people. Again, go figure.

Also people like you who think being in the office means people are working is the funniest fu--ing thing I've ever read.

I'd like to see RSUs given to all FTEs, especially those on the front lines in stores and warehouse. Make us all owners!

  • 100 this is so tone deaf from a business perspective …. WFH on Mondays and Friday? Who are you kidding you are not working

Growth? How do you think that happens ? You actually have to invest in the right areas and then track it.
The OP sounds like a unionized worker
