Thread regarding Fidelity Investments layoffs

Offered a Squad Leader role, how is it?

I was offered a Squad Leader role at Fidelity and I am curious if the culture here is as bad as everyone makes it out to be? Six rounds of interviews for the role, everyone I met with has been with the firm 10 years or more. I would love honest feedback!

Not an sl, but from what I’ve observed you have to be enthusiastically spewing fidelity out of your a$$ to be successful in the role. Sl’s that get promoted from my observation have all been extreme workaholics and worked even weekends and pto days and basically their entire being was their job. The others I’ve noticed got moved around or were micro managed to death by their own leadership. It seems like a high paying job though but I don’t think work/life balance is great.

@dp no such thing as job security. Fidelity has reductions in force, relocation mandates and other position affecting actions all the time. The best job security in any company in my view is supporting a critical area of the business ( sales, compensation etc) where at least a good core of people are required to make money or support areas that do.

@dp there's no such thing as job security anymore.

You can be blind sided by so many side initiatives going on these days, my team had no idea our replacement initiative was being built for 3 years until a month ago, we kept working hard to still "keep lights on" but came as total shock how senior leaders treated us without empathy

OP: reason I asked here is job security is one of my top priorities. I am an outside hire.

Odd to come to a layoff board to find out what a role as a new hire would be like lol.

Is this internal mobility or outside hire?

Squad leader seems like a pretty easy role in my eyes, but it seems pretty ambiguous what the responsibilities are at the same time. An hour drive in Dallas though? I don't think I could throw my life away like that.

I would be based out of Westlake. Its about an hour drive to get there but that is Dallas in a nutshell. I would be leading an Agile Squad in SPS.
