Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

RTO on Monday

So how are we all handling this? Show up, swipe your badge, grab a coffee and leave? That's my team's plan.

Such a great use of time and money, thanks JD!!!

Worse than a tracking system …. They put the responsibility on your managers to make sure you’re in the office, and that verbiage we received was that if you don’t keep your sheep in the barn you can get canned. But yes, they do have ways to know where you arelogged in from and if they suspect you aren’t following the party line they will monitor.

Everyone should tether their laptops to their phones and vpn in while on campus Monday. After you swipe your badge somewhere of course.

Tech ops is the real org to be afraid of… sorry CIS.

Wrong. The software was installed last spring to detect computer location. Reports are or will be run monthly. You don’t need a thousand people to run a software report. If that doesn’t make sense, then you shouldn’t be in tech. Or if you’re that naive and think you know everything that’s being secretly installed, you shouldn’t be in tech. It’s widely known that each tech org does their own thing. People should be aware they’re being monitored whether by badge or software. This gives them information to make better decisions.

wow.... the conspiracy is real in this thread. as someone who has implemented one of these systems and who has worked with all of the data sources being discussed, lets come back to something mentioned over and over about nike. our data is a HELLSCAPE.

we don't have some evil genius employee tracking system. nike isn't running xkeyscore. in our current decrepit state it would be a gigantic undertaking to piece all of these completely separate data sources together once let alone repeatedly. that doesn't preclude nike from hiring in yet another professional service to do it for us, but holy he-l people relax. more than likely what will happen is some decided management level will be provided periodic a badge in report and you will be held accountable. end of story.

just fu---n go to work no matter how much of a complete waste of time it is, things will almost certainly chill out again once the storm passes.

What a waste of gas Andrew a great way to increase our carbon footprint. Didn’t Nike focus on sustainability or was that all a lie to? lol

Sh-t. Store in your locker? Most don’t have an assigned space. That should tell you something about my privilege.

Leave and lock your computer into your docking station. Problem solved. Work life balance restored.

@1uzw+1qpDlMOz. That doesn’t matter. It’s your computer location that’s tracked. Pay attention to your lower right pop up notifications. They’ve been doing this at Amazon.

Badging reports are for occupancy of buildings and some tracking. These reports allowed for lease cancellations so that employees could be moved back to campus into buildings that could accommodate them.

Exactly. This has been happening for a while now. Monthly reports can be run by direct reports and ic’s, etc., every employee. Welcome to Amazon.

@1nrs those reports already exist as do ones that show individual activity via laptops and phones. Every login, keystroke, zoom meeting, mouse click, etc is known and can be viewed via a number of reports. On the whole the reporting is used to understand the big picture but they can and do drill down to individual level if they are high enough up the food chain. They also can track your movements via your cell phone but currently do not unless necessary for a major investigation (think theft of IP/high heat product). Assume when you’re using any Nike devices or are on Nike property everything you do can be tracked.

@1vbr+1qpDlMOz what about when you are in meetings, being present? How are they accounting for and tracking that?

It’s not badging, it’s internal software that detects your exact location.

@1nrs “badge out”? Where is there a “badge out”? I’ve never seen one. He-l some buildings don’t even have a badge IN.

Not trying to add to a sense of paranoia but what makes you think they aren't monitoring the time of your first badge in and last badge out of a building? Seems to me that if they're really serious about enforcement they could always ratchet things up a notch and evaluate if employees are spending a minimum amount of time on campus and not just "coffee badging" their way around the intent of the RTO mandate. They can probably just set up an algorithm that automatically generates a list of questionable badging activity based on certain rules e.g. less than an hour of total time spent on campus.

I'm not a fan of the RTO mandate and think it is pretty silly but just putting it out there that there could be a risk in thinking there's a way to work the system.

@dcj+1qpDlMOz 100% it’s a tax thing. Nike is located where it is to avoid tax. The moment employees work in another state they are liable to pay into unemployment as well as other regulations and benefits states require outside of oregon.

For example, Washington requires sick pay in addition to PTO, and California has different laws on maternity and paternity. Both also have a different tax amount required by the company to be paid into unemployment, and we all know Nike loves to avoid paying its taxes!

I actually live on campus technically, so I’m ok with this. I’ve been living rent free from my converted Sprinter in the lot over near Costco. I guess I’m always “on” hahah. Stop by for a coffee/beer anytime.

I get such a kick out of the “innovative” philosophy core to Nike’s DNA. Rigid in office mandates have backfired globally. That’s a thing of the past. Work environments and collaboration evolve. This RTO must be a tax thing that Washington County is pushing on for PKs sweet land deal?

Yes same here. My co workers are loud AF and Nike’s d-mb open office concepts leave no room for quiet work. I’ll put in some face time then hurry home to do my actual job.

So innovative and future-focused, JD! No wonder PK hired you.

I hope this isn't really your attitude. Nike is at it's best when people are together. If that doesn't work for you: raise your hand and opt out. But don't just phone it in. Your colleagues deserve much better than that.
