Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of good data viz engineers in the team. But seems bloated. Tableau is a drag and drop tool and some of the people I work with only do that. In an org, where they have 1:1 ratio with Engineers and DAMs, seems like they aren't doing much, most of the time. In no other company I've seen this, they should be BI Analyst or BIE or something and Data Viz part should be done by fewer people, especially with all AI and whatnot.

why would we get more data analysts when the mark of a successful tech org is engineering ratio?
@d7 it's so sad the way people throw each other another bus on this site
Why the heck should teams that actually provide business value care about this month’s data team? You said it yourself. There’s a ton of redundancy, they’re not close enough to the business to understand the data, and the data teams themselves are very weak technically.
I dread getting that knock on the door because I know someone is yet again going to be begging me to do their job for months. All without knowing anything about the last time I set everything up for someone and spent hours explaining the data (while they ignored documentation painfully kept up to date). All the while not giving an ounce of respect for MY needs & deadlines. Screaming directly in the DMs to every level of my leadership chain they can find, “We are failing deadlines, missing out on $$ imaginary user comprehension dollars, and it’s all X’s fault! I’m telling MY leaders that YOUR teams are at fault. And MY leaders are taking THIS up with the CTO, CEO, or whatever buddy buddy executive hired their friend.”
Nike’s data teams are terrible partners. Absolutely toxic. I’m sorry. That’s just how it is. I dread every interaction forced on me. Hopefully these reorgs to bring the analysts closer to the teams & business work out. Functionally that’s what needs to happen for this all to work. But the individuals I’ve worked with will never create successful outcomes.
There are too many orgs in GT with Data, viz, business and intelligence in the name. Needless bloated redundancy. On top of AI/ML related org. Each org engaged in own empire building and working in silos for fear of losing their bloated sense of importance. And yet getting clean usable data from upstream systems is an organizational nightmare. Because systems that create data could care less about how downstream processes and systems use the data. Textbook silo mentality. Each org is only looking out for its own narrow short term scenario. Definitely no enterprise mindset contrary to what senior leaders claim. All this based on multiple true stories at Nike.
There is no data viz org
why are you randomly going after different teams? Once again GT proves itself as the most toxic in Nike
sigh... really @op??
is this lord of the flies or something figuring out "who else but not me" can go?
you DO realize that just shifts power firmly back to the employers side right? not the employee.
That's amazing that a Nike employee is encouraging additional Layoffs by posting publically internal informations.
Jealous, do-nothing EDAI people are commenting and trashing Data Viz. We have large team because EDAI has not done their work-deliver timely, high quality, consistent data. We end up doing their work in addition to ours
Data is complete tr-sh. Every source I could find in 3.5 years was tr-sh and inaccurate. So long as there remains no accountability, it’ll stay that way.
Nike data viz is a joke. Nothing ever gets done.
