@d6 100%, there isn’t enough to get people to uproot their families and move to Portland, unless they’re desperate. High end talent dictate terms. That’s why we still have people remote.

All they want is money. If they think they’ll personally make more money feigning interest in you having “friends that you work with” they’ll do it.

@d5 what they want is the fake smiles and fake friends to make life worth living. Most of us spend most of our waking hours there, and they want to make that a culture where we just live here.
Every layoff, the RTO bogeyman gets resurrected. Portland doesn't have depth bench needed staying local.

We absolutely will return to five days a week. Timing… tbd. But it will happen. Some 23 year old mba consultant from Bain or Accenture will deck it up and execs will lather in it. Full remote will be brought back as seats open up.
If a five day RTO could provide even the most remote possibility of increasing exec compensation (through share price increase)… they’ll do it. Culture be damned.
There is no reason not to do it. They know the culture is trash. Engagement bottoming. And they aren’t planning on staying long term anyways.
Again… if they can sniff even the most remote possibility of increasing their now upside down positions… thy will.
No definitive long term risk to culture will outweigh the slightest possibility of more money for the ruling elite.
Rto no summer hours and a huge cut to PTO, expect it to get more like other struggling companies. Be thankful you have free coffee and a place to park you spoiled middle class fools

5 day RTO for "flexible" 4-1 workers is silly when everyone sc--ws around and leaves early on Friday anyway
and pilot guys are still geographically distributed, plus many teams now mixed with ITC etws that can barely function without nonstop zoom call handholding
Im in tech and all of the departments around me have been in office for years… so not much of a threat. Hope y’all enjoy those long lines though
My team has been returned for the office for YEARS now. How many people in tech are working even 30 hours a week, let alone chastised for not being seen at their desks like those of us already forced back into the office?
