Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Tracking 8 hours in office, how are they doing it!

So on the call, they said they are tracking people and expect everyone to be in office 8 hours.

How are they tracking this? IP?

@d9 THIS is why the culture in many areas of the bank took a nosedive during 2023 when El-See-O started 'strongly suggesting' that remote workers without a manager or coworkers within 500 miles, source out a desk in a bank branch and then get it approved by their manager, real estate, and blah, blah, blah...but never provided the roadmap for doing so.

Obviously USB has learned from the Wells Fargo playbook for getting employees soooo frustrated that they leave on their own...obviously without any severance!

@he No, there’s no badging out at Nicollet. You badge in twice - once in the floor and once for the elevator. The new gates are only badge in.

Just wait until they require the implants.

@a6 sapience has a tool called whereabouts work. No badge swipes required. It can determine if in office or working remotely. I’m not saying this is in use. Akso trackd arrival time. I ran across this the other day in reading and wondered ….

They will just add bad scanners to leave the buildings. Have had it at many other companies. I think they already have to badge out of Nicolette?

@d5
Open software self service and look for a program called Work Process Analytics. If it's there, Sapience is on your PC.

Another way is to open task and look for
"leaf". If it's there, it's tracking you at that very moment.

I want all the old gen x executives 60 and over and all boomers gone. They are the reason this monitoring situation is playing out as their last ditch effort to control people.

@da That’s true currently. The dashboard only gives us a %, no other data.

For the managers, is that true you can only see number of days swipe? It doesn’t show what day you wipe? So I can come in and swipe on Saturday?

I was a remote employee before COVID. I am the only team member in my HUB. My manager is in another city. Yah not staying 8 hours a day.

Is it possible to tell if Sapience is installed on your computer? I haven’t been able to find it on mine.

Right now there is a manager dashboard showing number of times badged in over 11. It doesn't show any additional information. It doesn't show if you coffee badge or even if you badge in a couple of days on the weekend while you're running errands near the office.

So.. the metric is 3 (8 hr) days x 11 per month. But they currently only have a dashboard that shows days swiped in / 11.

They lied in the call when they said we are tracking badge outs. They tried to implement a system earlier, but it was not reliable, and they settled on the badge/11 system.

Don't underestimate their desire to micromanage though. They will hire an entire team in India to home brew some software to calculate exactly how long your seat you reserved stayed warm in the office. It's very important to productivity. I actually remember learning this skill back in school. Preschool. We stood in lines and had cubbies and took daily attendance before singing our ABCs. We, of course, all know being in a specific chair is the most valuable metric when calculating engineering performance and output. I mean, what else could you even look at in a performance review other than chair time?

If anyone else has details of any dashboard being presented with hour tracking or more specific info, it would be appreciated to share details.

So it's a lot of bark to imply they actually track hours in the office. But if you are coffee badging, you may get on a PIP based on your managers "feeling" of RTO non compliance. Gut feelings are the best metric to run performance reviews on, what could go wrong?

If any of this obsessive micromanagement makes you feel bad, remember they you are wrong to feel that way. Morale is actually high. We're better "together." We put people "first."

As a sidenote, don't forget that unfortunately due to economic constraints, bonuses and promotions will be limited this year. The bank simply cannot afford that budget. But on a side side note, please make sure to see Happy Gilmore 2, it was incredibly expensive to pay for product placement, but it's important US Bank maintains it's position as an industry leader in the movie industry.

The employee monitoring software that tracks IP, key strokes, mouse movement, inactive time, login in/log out, etc.

They haven’t even gotten people to reliably badge in 3 days a week. I don’t think duration will be a big issue unless coffee badging becomes endemic. People doing that will ruin it for everyone, either come in for a couple hours or don’t bother. That doesn’t solve for when you come in for meeting that don’t need laptops and it’s not visible.

Badge swipes and VPN vs Internal network usage. I'm just sad that leadership feels that being a hall monitor is a valuable use of their own time.

It may just be by observation and/or chatter at this point. I work my 8 in the office. I'm always one of the first in and one of the last to leave. Most come in around 10 and leave by 1. I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't checking IPs too though.

@a7 Exactly. They know we have appts, etc. They’re not going to expect 100% in office 3 days a week. I think when it comes down to it, they will have an acceptable %. They have got to come up with something better than the dashboard that we’re using today.

They're supposed to be flexible with the number of hours per day, according to the FAQ.

They forget that people have kid pickup and drop-off and lives. 8 hours in office isn't attainable for most, and totally pointless for the rest. Just fu--ing leave us alone and let us do our jobs.

It's very easy for them to tell if you are connected remotely or at an office and for how long. It could be through Sapience or something else. Right now it's just how many days of the month do you swipe your badge, but they could change this later.
