Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

HR, Shady behavior over here!

Manager has his “chief of staff” check in with his exec assistant. Assistant is informed that the mgr no longer wishes to work with her, bcuz assistant can’t read his mind. Assistant asks if she should expect to be displaced and is told that she is not on the list. There’s a list? Anyway, chief of staff tells assistant to start looking around for someone else to support. So is assistant supposed to just market herself to random managers? Where is HR? Is mind reading a reasonable performance objective? How is this happening in the current environment? So many Qs.

the admin/assistant should be glad she got an informal heads up, giving her lead time to find something else. I guarantee that this would otherwise (and still could) turn into formal warning, PIP, etc and then she would not be able to move within the company.

It's contemptible that the exec didn't have this convo himself and sent his COS to do it... but the net of it is she needs to start posting internally and externally and get herself outta there.

There's no issue that HR will take on here - the sooner she moves on mentally from "retribution" to "action" the better.

No such thing as HR or ER, you will get stuck in the vapor trail of life waiting for something good to happen. I pray for a layoff this is the most miserable experience of my life

I think I read somewhere on here a reference to “dumpster fire“. I thought that was only relating to data management area :)

@cqg+17LJlN0m, I was the one who said that HR is asleep at the wheel. I didn’t mean they aren’t advocating for employees, but rather that they’re not ensuring proper practices are followed and not providing adequate guidance and oversight for managers. This places Wells at risk.

with office automation tools available and everyone working from home, I don't understand why any staff below c-level would need an admin anymore.

Y'all act like HR is there for the employee??? HR is loyal to the company only and not the employee. Just like you should be loyal to yourself and no one else and do what is in your own best interest, not a shi–y company or a-hole boss.

Yes, she is supposed to market herself for her next gig. You have to take control of your career. If someone in authority is telling you to look for a new job, you better do it. That's what they call "writing on the wall". it doesnt get any clearer than that.

sheesh. At least the boss didn't just out right displace her. Seems like most of the admin's/EA's have a good connection though so would certainly network and see if any others have known openings coming up. How long was the admin working for this bozo anyway?

Happened to me at another company. H/r sat passively and did nothing which is how I ended up in here.

HR is asleep at the wheel on so many things that should be common practice at a large, heavily regulated company.
