Great Article on Failed Memo

https://writing-boots.com/2025/08/the-stankey-employee-memo-and-my-reply/

Written in response to results and remarks in a recent employee survey, the Stankey screed was a corporate passive-aggressive version of the famous Glengarry Glen Ross tongue-lashing, to all 140,000 of AT&T leaders and workers.

"I don’t work at AT&T. For all I know, it’s peopled with a bunch of whining, entitled mopes who don’t like to work."

The Stankey Swindle - classic case of fail upwards if there ever was one. Stank is what is wrong with the corporate elite, he just lacks a filter to hide what he really thinks. We should be thankful for that, at least the mask is completely gone. Just like McElfresh did with his last townhall, totally removed it.

I don’t see how the business does better when the employees have turned their backs. Once you lose that, the rest is downhill. Only saving grace would be for these clowns at the top to be replaced, rolling back 5x8, and moving back to a hybrid model. That would instill some good will back to the employees. At the rate we’re going, next quarters numbers are not going to be good, as will the rest. Make that stock drop and watch them all get moved out.

We need to get this trending. The comments are gold. One of you retirees do a TikTok video or something. They can’t fire you. More spotlight for our intellectual mid-et of a CEO is good for everyone.

@cm

57% is horrible, I agree. I expected many more to be disengaged. I know we can do it!

Based on the Business Insider article and percentage of total respondents, only 57% of employees are engaged. those are horrible numbers. I wonder if anyone has the breakdown of employee engagement for each BU. Please share if you know them.

I love this part:

"So to leaders who wonder why they can’t get people on board for a necessary change: It might not be the change you’re proposing that makes people nervous."

"It might be you, who are failing to give them confidence."
