Thread regarding T-Mobile layoffs

Peak schmeak

Ah, the time of year where the company creates this jealousy & favoritism vibe with peak awards, many folks in my org who got it marginally deserve, but others who work tireless hours got not even a nomination…i flirted with jealousy and feeling some type of way til i was reminder many of those who got laid off were peak/winners circle, etc award winners, so in the end, does it matter?

@vf I agree! Peak should be for Sr. Manager or below. Director and above are more than fairly compensated! I have also seen a director in retail walk around and ask for nominations. He used to be in Bellevue then he and his wife moved to Texas. What a loser! 🤣

@ag I wouldn't even want that trip, bunch a$$ kissers and people who take credit for work they didn't do! Plus, you are told what to do for the entire trip. In all the time I have been with TMo, I would say 2 out of 100 chosen actually deserve the award.

@qq I believe they gave cash during covid. That’s what I recall.

Other than that it’s true that a director or VP deems you the person deserving or property brown nosing/made them look good and they strong arm people to nominate. Have seen it multiple times. I also never agreed with directors or vps being selected. Should be for ICs or managers IMO

@dk You sure sound like a hoot to be around in the office. Doubtful with your winning personality that you won PEAK twice, and refused to go and took the money instead. Not sure thats even an option, but if you say so. 🤣

PEAK is another carrot they can hold over you - I'm surprised they still do it. I guess when there's no advancement opportunities and deadbeat leaders they need something.

I turned down PEAK twice now. Not because I don't deserve it. I turned it down because it is just something I'm not interested in. I would prefer the money over a trip and hanging out with co-workers that I don't even care to engage with off the clock. If I'm not paid to be around you then I don't care to have anything to do with you. You are a co-worker and nothing more. I have friends and none of them work for T-Mobile or ever will. Work is work and personal life is personal life and the two will never co-mingle.

I agree with you all. This is a joke. peak is who can sell most to their friends to nominate. I have even seen Sr Director and manger sending emails to many folks asking to nominate their employee. This is total corrupt. Peak is for brown no se r. Low performers and act they do more.

The PEAK award has become a joke.

What was once a symbol of excellence is now a loyalty badge for people who stay close to power. It’s no longer about impact, innovation, or hard work—it’s about visibility, politics, and who knows how to sell someone else’s work as their own.

Some of the most talented, relentless contributors at T-Mobile will never see this award because they’re too busy actually doing the work. Meanwhile, the same familiar names get rewarded for presentations, credit-taking, and strategic silence.

Let’s stop pretending this is merit-based recognition. When awards go to narrators instead of builders, they lose all credibility. This isn’t motivation—it’s disrespect to the people carrying real responsibility.

If leadership wants trust, start recognizing truth. Until then, the PEAK award is just corporate theater.

It's mostly for self-promoting a-s kissers.

If you recall the ”Jack Welch A, B, C Player Model”.(1) If you are NOT receiving awards, chances are you are on a team with “B or C Players”, being managed by a “B or C Manager”. Remember, ALL award nominations are submitted by your peers and endorsed by your manager. Do you think an “A Player” will be nominated by a “B or C Peer” and endorsed by a “B or C Manager”?

  • “A” Players Hire/Promote/Reward other “A” Players
  • “B” Players will NEVER Hire/Promote/Reward an “A” Player, rarely hire other “B” Players, and feel safe hiring “C” Players
  • “C” Players…hopefully you are not labeled one

I've been to peak and in the end it does not matter. It's also a great way for execs to get free trips. Yes, they work a lot of the time they are there but lets face it, they also get some relaxation in while in HI or some of the WC locations. I wonder if Srini will start moving PEAK to india so everyone can go bath in the river and visit call centers, IT and the future home of the company.

It helps executives get more company paid trips basically.

How is it a reward to have to interact with those tools half of the time you’re there?

PEAK is meaningless. I've seen PEAK winners be laid off the next year.

Do not give up your soul for T-Mobile. It is not worth it.

...and one more. After someone leaves (whether voluntarily or laid off), ask yourself how quickly their name is no longer mentioned in T-Mobile in conversation or in their achievements. Most of the time it is as if they never existed.

It is what T-Mobile has become now.
