Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Nike's Rank - WSJ - The 2026 Best Companies for the Future

The Wall Street Journal evaluates how leading US corps stack up in 6 areas: AI readiness, innovation, talent readiness, financial fitness, resilience and agility.

  • Nike is one of the strongest non-tech names in your list. It ranks #36 overall with an Overall Score of 63.7, and it is #1 out of 11 companies in Consumer Durables & Apparel. The key strengths are very clear: Innovation Rank #10 and Resilience Rank #13. That is an elite combination for a consumer brand.

  • The weaknesses are less severe but still important. Nike ranks #185 in AI and #223 in Talent Readiness, so the table does not view it as an AI leader or top-tier people platform. The strategic read is that Nike is being rewarded for brand durability, product innovation, and resilience, not for technology leadership. It screens as a premium global consumer franchise with future-readiness strength, but it still has room to improve in AI and talent.

I don't need a 3rd party site to provide a scorecard for the obvious.

The brand has been in a funk since CDA. A ship this size will take a while to steer in the right direction. Nonetheless, the "fixing" phase has lasted longer than the "growth" phase which is a sign of trouble and the constant layoffs also show more theoretical guess work in play rather than data driven decisions.

If Aug/Sept is another round then where is the bottom?

Surviving one round is no guarantee for the next and neither is our team working on AOP above the line. We're all cooked with ITC in every discussion.

Good luck everyone!

AI is not going to solve politics. Nor will it solve leadership. These are Nike’s problems.

Talent readiness and AI is certainly believable. DEI still infects too much of the company and Tech has been one big failure after the next

@cd I've noticed more and more posts appear to be fabricated based on either generic company information or previous popular topics. Not sure if it's just someone playing with agents on their own, or the site is using it to drive more traffic to popular company boards. There was another type of site like this that was obviously using AI to do the same thing
