WARN Notice went out for some Minnesota employees

Email that went out today from Minnesota's State Rapid Response Team:

The State Rapid Response Team (SRRT) received a Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, 29 U.S.C. § 2101 et seq. ("WARN") email from Medtronic, Inc. informing us of the permanent layoff of approximately 6 employees from their facility located at:

3800 Annapolis Ln, Plymouth, MN 55447

According to the WARN notice, the permanent layoffs are the result of Medtronic’s plan to restructure certain operations at the facility. Employee layoffs are expected to begin on or about November 24, 2026, and may occur over a 14-day period beginning on that date.

Employees are not represented by a union. There are no bumping rights.

Positions affected in this layoff/closure are, but are not limited to:

Assembler, Manufacturing Chemical Operator, Ship/Rec/Stores Clerk

My understanding of the WARN Act is that employers are supposed to give 60 calendars day notice. If you are laid off from Medtronic, you are still an employee for an additional two months with no badge or online access. Once that's up, your severance kicks in.

That two month window counts towards the 60-day notice. My guess is this is done to keep employees from getting wind of the layoffs, and it keeps people productive.

I'm not sure why there was a notification for this layoff. The WARN Act goes into quite a bit of detail on plant closures, so maybe manufacturing is changing at that site.

@dm the surgical layoffs 100% are true, but those only apply for the Boston, North Haven, and remote folks. This WARN is for a MN site. If you only want to be here to spread false doubt, please leave and stop trolling. This site is amazingly helpful for those of us that got RIF’d and got to see a smidgen of the process and writing on the wall before it happened to them (aka me).

I did I read that wrong ? 6 people? Surgical just did 150 or so people. Nothing was email to anyone before or after the event.
