Now I wish I hadn’t been so complacent and left this place long ago. Back when there were still real jobs out there…

@dy Per google ICE officers can get up to 167K a year, and they don't have to live in places like California.
@d6 There is no betray, Need Cash to support family and Bring food on the table among other things. Similar to why cartels smuggled and sell we-pons to next door neighbor (Mex) and Why polleros smuggled people? Polleros get $10,000 per head to smuggle people = lucrative business from many many years
Reply to: They need ICE agents, pay is good 30 pieces of silver
ICE pay is low. Better apply for jobs at the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

@cb Who exactly are they betraying?
I was let go from my position in Support, and I actually feel relieved. The situation felt nonsensical; why would I work harder when I had so much extra work from the colleagues who were let go? I was dealing with unrealistic metrics and customers who had become unpleasant due to the lack of resources. Additionally, there was no pay raise, and I could have been let go at any moment and it happen!
I had the worst manager at Oracle. His main concern was looking good for his director, with no appreciation for the hard work of his team.
Even though I was a top performer and genuinely cared about my customers, Oracle doesn’t share that sentiment. They only care about profits. I’m glad I didn’t stay there for long. I didn’t learn much, but I did meet some great people.
An advice who ever is staying, have a back up plan, upskill on something in demand and know that you can be let go at any time. Good luck. There is life after Oracle.
I do think this kind of riff will go away as it is a mistake. Eventually upper management and board will realize that the customers are not happy and that the customers begin to spend their money elsewhere.
What is happening now is he-l for the employees but it must hit customers hard too. Imagine being in the middle of a project and suddenly those they interact with at Oracle are gone. Imagine customers with critical applications suddenly realizing the support guys they usually get help from are gone.
And telling customers to instead interact with AI.... well... I don't think that is what they pay Oracle for. They pay for interactions with skilled humans at Oracle.
Now, a skilled support engineer at Oracle might use AI as a tool and that way be more productive and this means Oracle needs less support engineers. But the ones that are still at Oracle that are using AI as a tool need to be skilled, to know if the suggested solution AI gives is sane or to adapt the answer to the customers needs.
Someone wrote that he is using AI like an intern. He must supervise and he must review what AI produces. It is not just to assume it is right and put it into production.
But yes, a lot of employees will be let go the coming years. But the old way, some projects will be ki-led and those working on it will be terminated. And from time to time, the immediate manager will be informed to cut X % of the staff, where he/she can suggest who to let go or not.
@ax yes, there are support contracts to be honored, but support mgmt harrassment/threats and customer pressure was unbearable. I was working 12 hrs a day and with no OT, nothing. I was praying to get laid off and finally got my wish this time.
This is never ending story. Better turn on your Plan B option and GTFO of there just for your mental health.
years ago, I was driving by a strip mall, there was a (manual labor) employment agency. They had a sign that said "work today, pay today", basically day workers. After I got cut,
I realized it was always that way for myself and other Oracle people. You can be gone in
a second. I say learn as much as you can, don't let the cr-p get you down (that is hard to do), who knows, since customers have certain support contracts that must be maintained, so i would think they need someone working to fulfill those, so you might
never get cut. Just another way to look at it if U are still there.
Is this ever going to end?
You must be new here.
Only now? And no, it is not ever going to end.
