Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

I would rather bet on the success of TMobile and Verizon

I just don't see this ATT ship going anywhere with its total lack of leadership. I also see employee sabotage simply through malaise and not giving a rip about anything. Maybe the plan is to simply sell the entire thing to Private Equity and let them milk it bone dry. Imagine actually making the precise cuts needed and paying severance. This charade would have been done years ago but they can't take a quarterly or annual hit. God forbid you take a step back to take 3 leaps forward. What is left is Stankey and his minions at the VP level and above who are locked to this company. The VP of 5G MVNO and Partnerships is locked down through DEI protection and overextended on multiple large homes. Al Roker Gary Coleman hybrid can never leave.

@cw why would we include contractors in our total headcount??? just like you wouldn't include our consultants as part of our employee headcount. Both work for separate companies.

137.6K it is.

@d4 indeed - per your 2Q earnings materials, ~137.6K as of 6/30/2025.

"We do not have anything near 130k employees."

Read Stankey's email from August 1 and report back on the number of employees.

We do not have anything near 130k employees.

That includes contractors.

Get a real count

Company is trying to offload unused real estate, archaic technologies and old employees who collect a paycheck. That’s really all there is to it, morale might improve somewhat once they accomplish this. But, on the other hand, they’ll be using AI to gather metadata on EVERYTHING and EVERYONE.

T-Mobile has 70K, VZ 90K and we have north of 135K. Add in all of our contractors (and I'm sure our # is much higher than other two), and this is when you understand the bloat. Instead of making a one or two time tough decision and cutting XX%, we spin RTO and month to month cuts.

Neither approach is positive but doing the latter ensures everyone stays worried about their job all the time. If our leaders had any b*lls (like VZ few years back when announced 50K cuts), maybe this could actually work. Instead we all complain, worry, stress and then get asked to make another powerpoint that goes into the black hole abyss here.

"Verizon has 100k employees."

That means AT&T has 33% more employees than VZ but $12B less in annual revenue.

When my employee discount ended I immediately switched to Verizon wireless. Drastic improvement.

@av no they don’t. Verizon has 100k employees. Just about the same as us.
