Thread regarding Paramount Global layoffs

What do people do for medical coverage after being laid off?

That's my biggest issue right now. I can't afford to lose my job because I desperately need my health insurance. Do we get anything as part of the severance package?

Once the severance period ends, COBRA coverage costs between $3,100 and $3,800. I doubt most people would continue it at that price. If you’re in New York, consider exploring options through the Health Plan Marketplace. They will give you some options to choose from. They are not too expensive.

@df the first month of your severance it'll still be under the employer. they will give you a form to decide if you want to continue the same plan through COBRA or not. if you do go with COBRA, employer will help offset the cost, so you can pay the same employee rate during your severance period. once severance is over, you pay full COBRA rate.
this is according to what I've been informed through HR and the documents i was provided for volunteer severance package.

@bs if your severance is say for 4 months does the company subsidize the cobra payment for that time? Or do you start paying after 28days?

@bs can you explain this more? so essentially what i'm currently paying for insurance through Paramount will be the same just through Cobra? if so that's not bad.....until it runs out...

28 days after you're let go, you have the option to choose to continue your current plan through COBRA, you'll pay employee rate through COBRA until you're severance ends. Or you can opt out. this is for volunteer severance package, but hoping the layoff will be the same package.

By law, you would be offered COBRA. COBRA can be used for an additional 36 months (I believe) but it is expensive.
