Thread regarding Ford layoffs

Strange People post COVID

Can we discuss the peculiar behavior of people in the office? What’s the deal with this numb, personalityless, smart-a-s, arrogant new type of behavior? I find many people in the office absolutely cringe-worthy. While some are quite normal, a significant number are simply bizarre. It’s like observing a child with Asperger’s syndrome in the office. Have people lost their personalities? If you can sit at a desk and make snarky comments while appearing completely serious about them, yet make no effort to connect with your coworkers, what exactly are you doing in the office? It seems like these individuals could be outsourced in a heartbeat, as we clearly don’t require their interpersonal, softer skills or collaboration. Is everyone so risk-averse that they can’t exhibit a bit of common sense? I may not be an outgoing personality and I tend to keep to myself most of the time, but for the love of all that’s holy, there’s something seriously wrong with you if you can go to a place with a thousand other people, say nothing to anyone, sit at your desk for eight hours, only getting up to use the restroom or have lunch. No one even smiles in the hallway anymore.

This thread is both a disgrace and a testament to how sc--wed up this place is. Fu--ing seriously? Grow up. It amazes me how many children that look like adults work at Ford. Covid conspiracy? Who gives a sh-t, I don’t care what you do to yourself, not my business, certainly not the business of a company you work for either. People need to set boundaries and speak up when enough is enough. Some people take things way too far, and instead of management stepping up like a grownup they placate people to make them feel better… Just be an adult, manage your own sh-t and call it a day.

I think people's social media personas and it is becoming part of their personality. I think it especially happens with the younger workers who have limited experience working in a business environment.

This wasn’t me, nor are any of the other ones, someone or multiple people on this site are clearly copying language/themes. People may want to consider it’s a big company and situations may parallel others... I feel like there’s a law and order style disclaimer that’s required….

I agree that a lot of people seem to lack interpersonal skills post-COVID. I'm not a people person; I've learned over the years that people just cause pain, some on purpose, some completely unintentional. I never share this but I've had sort of a tragic and traumatic past when it comes to people, so I don't like to get close to people, I rarely like people, afraid of connection and so on. That said, I do make an attempt to be as friendly as possible; sometimes it comes off as awkward, but whatever, I try; I'm always kind though, and never would be weird intentionally. Some people assume there's some sort of COVID conspiracy - completely ridiculous, rolled out and administered poorly, sure. No doubt everything we do to our bodies has consequences, good or bad. Personally, I got the shot, and my health has declined coincidentally, but by no means do I blame the shot - it's stress, a bad situation, age, genetics, whatever; it's manageable. I'm pretty picky about what I do take; my doctors are kind of less is more type people; I like that, and overall pretty healthy for my age; it could be a lot worse. I do long for a bit more of the old days, where people were a bit more colorful, and communicated more openly, but that was the past and I'm an old man now. That said, I am not overly religious, but I do think of the Lord’s Prayer quite a bit. Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Please don't assume things about people with regards to health, political philosophy, intentions and so on, people are so complex, sometimes it's fun to understand people, but those days are mostly gone too I feel as everyone is so divided, but I do look forward a better tomorrow.

You're right, it's the same.

How I missed standing in pi$$ in front of the urinals, shoe scuff marks on the toilet seats and everything else with being in the office.

I cannot believe what I read here. Doesn't any Ford employee that visits this site stay true to the Ford Behaviors? They are readily available online. I can say none of the poor behaviors exhibited here occur in my software department.

@a3 you say normal? What's normal? Being like every other lemming walking around pretending to care with a fake a-s smile? Fu-k that. I'd rather hang around the people that actually have a personality and aren't afraid to show it. As well as saying things that they are actually thinking instead of the PC bullsh-t were told is "ok". My experience has always been speaking the truth and what you are really thinking will get you way more respect than being a sheep. I don't have time for cliches and small talk. Business at work, talk about similar interests or leave me the fu-k alone. And if you're an a-s kissing narcissist, fu-k all the way off.

Its mainly because we realized we hate people more than we thought. Nobody here is your friend. Nobody cares about you. There is nobody here I could call in a crisis for help and expect results. Nobody here would contact me if I got removed beyond wanting to know what happened. And the same for me. I don't give a sh-t about anyone here. I want to be at my home with my family. I only come here for the money. That's just how it is. Everyone has their own things going on and nobody likes disruption.

OP....almost nobody wants to be sitting in the office doing work they could be doing at home. The BS "culture" argument/ excuse is just BS. You can't force people to interact. Smart companies know this. If for example you really want to build a culture, you treat adults like adults and let culture organically happen. People who want to come in, will. These people will perhaps build an environment that may attract others to come in here and there too. What Ford and other companies have done is just create an office prison. That is really what you're seeing. Plain and simple.

Don't ever forget that it was only the salaried folks in the US who were mandated to get the shots. Not hourly, not Europe.

Bill Ford's kids and other Board members were most likely warned not to get the covid fluid.

At least Zuckerberg warned his people: https://rumble.com/shorts/v6q0mqc

I have Asberger’s Syndrome, but I did not think it was that apparent from the outside lol. I interact with my coworkers, but there’s also a caution with that which is why I prefer union and plant people. You can shoot the sh-t with them or have shop talk, everyone knows it’s all in good fun and even if you have a political difference or say something someone doesn’t like it’s not the end of your career. Around the office you say some open secret, but it wasn’t meant to be said you’ll get reported like your coworkers are praying on your downfall. Gotta test the waters with some people, some you like, some you hope to avoid after the first few interactions, I know I’m not getting caught lackin’.

RTO was the worst thing Ford did. It disturbed dynamics in our team. Everyone’s tired and irritated over having to waste a good chunk of their time stuck in traffic and wasting away in an office with no soul.

@aj We need to root out every single id--t who still thinks anything wrong with other people must be due to vaccinations, its the antithesis of critical thinking. Did you even read those links? They all note that there is no conclusive proof, only associations. They all also note that incidence of psychological changes is much higher in people who have had COVID. We seriously need to give IQ tests out to weed out the last of the conservatives and conspiracy nuts.

Actually, I was in a interesting group where some the people couldn't wipe the smile off their face (completely fake), it was like they were all taking high doses of happy pills. The other three quarters of the people said nothing, they seemed beaten. Happy to be out of that place and back to a place where people are normal and reasonably friendly (not overly fake friendly). I don't understand the world, there's cruel people, stupid people, angry people, probably mentally ill people. I had to talk to a psychologist to figure out the group dynamics (not joking) - definition of toxic.

@OP

Why can't unhappy people who are sick of being di-ked over by management just paste smiles on their faces and learn a couple of snappy jokes to share?

Shouldn't take too long to get to the bottom of this mystery, scoob.

@a3 the facilities are the same? Hoteling and open concept was everywhere pre-Covid?

The office has changed and it got worse, all at the same time. People matched the office energy and got worse, too. If Ford invested in improving the environment for everyone instead of cramming as many people into as little space as possible - they might actually see an improvement in morale and work outcomes.

The facilities are the same as they were pre covid. Not sure why they'd act that way with peers, that's just weird. Might just be me, but I do find it strange how people interact at work, why can't people just be normal? I'm not a fan of being in office either, but if you have to do it, whats the point of being so weird about it?
