Does 4 hours of PTO count as day in office?

Sure this has been asked but couldn't find it

I am located in the West Coast, but many of my team members are located in India and the Philippines. I have to take multiple daily calls with the offshore teams every morning, so I cannot drive to the office in the morning. I drive to the office after all the morning calls are done (don't ask me what time). When I go to the office, none of my teammates are there, so I just sit in my cube quietly and work by myself (no collaboration of any kind happens here). Since my manager never asks me how long I stay in the office, I leave after 2 hours. I mean, what's the use? So far, no issues have shown up in my manager's report, so I am assuming I am good.

4 hrs of pto counts as a day in the office
badge swipe in, OR an on site network connection (wired, or wireless but not 'guest' wireless) counts
hours in office are not being tracked
assigned building compliance is being tracked.

Yes it counts.

Absolutely conflating on whether just swipes or swipes plus network counts.

Everything I have seen, based on other people.in my location coming and going, or on here there are no times on the report regarding swipes.

I happen to live close by, go in late mornings, log in, work until lunch, leave 3 days a week, maybe 6-8 hrs total a week. So far so good, but that could change I guess, but hopefully it will go the other, sensible way to them stopping tracking at all eventually.

Mgr here. The message to my team is:

“Just don’t show up on the report. I don’t want to hear about how. if your name isn’t on the report or compliance emails, then we’re good.”.

I’d rather keep my great team. It’s hard enough to retain good talent. I refuse to micromanage professionals.

We had this discussion this week. Yes, 4 hrs of PTO count as in office. They are being a bit tight-lipped on what the rules are b/c they won't want people gaming the system.

What was confirmed:

  • PTO counts as in-office, 4 hrs counts.
  • It's average over like 13 weeks
  • They are keeping an eye on network you use
  • they are watching what building you go to (if you go to non-assigned building all the time that's gonna be called out)
  • HR is monitoring (manager even said, he's got no choice in the matter and frankly I don't think he cares if we work in office or not.)

yes, 4 hours of PTO will check the box in the in office reporting. note that time in office is not tracked. as long as you badge in and sign on the network then you are free to leave. as for those like the west coaster who complain no one on their team is in their office you may not want to complain about that too much because the other alternative is for the company to give you the option to move where you team is or to be laid off, although like many perhaps you want to be laid off. just think if you had a manager or team members in your office then they may be watching you to ensure you are there all day. as for you working 5 to 5 to accommodate timezones, that is on you, set you schedule, block time, decline meetings, and work less hours. See if there is an office closer to you where you can squat. I in a similar situation here on the west coast, most of my team and business partners are east coast so some days I'm in the office by 5 or 6am at my own choice, and other days I take some calls from home then go to the office after that. I'm then in the office for 4-6 hrs and either finish things up at home or am just done for the day, but in any case I'm usually done by 2 or 3p. You need to set boundaries, and if you can't get to the office at 5am then block the same time each day on your calendar for when you will drive in so as to not interfere. At least your job gives you some flexibility, plenty of people who don't have that in their roles.

1 workday = 8 hours. 1/2 PTO satisfies the in office requirement=4 hours.
Beyond the above guideline, it’s whatever your manager tells you or verbally warns you on. As you would expect, some managers micro-manage with their new superpower.

It's not how many hours or days you spend time in the office, it's how much you accomplish each day each week. I have seen people who spend a few days to complete a simple task, and I have seen people who complete the same task in less than a day. I have seen this first hand because I am a manger. I just tell my team members to go to the office three days a week, and never to skip unless they are on a PTO, holiday or sick leave. I don't micromanage, I am happy as long as my team members complete and deliver their work "on time" with "good quality". Staying in the office for a long hours does not necessarily mean they are being productive.

Agree with earlier post, you are the exact kind of clock watching trash that is bringing the bank down. I bet you sit on the toilet for those entire 4 hours in the office, scrolling your lame videos and jack ing off while you are in there. I truly hope you get your pink slip soon.

You don't need to defend yourself. @uee+1pg1Xxku is obviously an id--tic troll, just ignore him.

I am in the West Coast and work from 5am to 5pm every day because I need to accommodate the time zone difference. Going into office is really inconvenient because it disrupts my work flow and meeting schedules in the morning. My commute takes at least 45 min. each way, and gets much longer if I hit the rush hour traffic. I usually stay in the office for a few hours and come home to beat the rush hour traffic. I personally don't understand the value of going into the office because all of my team members are located in different time zones, I have absolutely no need to go there. Oh the gas price here is more than $5 per gallon, which is eating my monthly budget.

I don't think most managers track how many hours we spend in the office. But I have been told that we need to swipe the budge and log on to the system with your computer to be credited for office visit.

There is no reason to attack. You don't know people's circumstances. Troll, go away. I work a ton of hours and have specific circumstances where I can't he there 8 hours. But if I am home, I work from 7 to 6 daily. So keep your snide comments to someone who has been here for 25 years

What a d-mb ?!! Seriously, it's no wonder WF has so many problems! They employ a bunch of clock watchers who don't even want to spend 4 hours let alone 9 or 10 in the office! JOKE! When I worked there, there were so many god damned lazy azz people su-king and milking the corporate t-t. Charlie is right, this place is like not efficient, period! He needs to clean house on a lot of you.

Why don't you try sitting in the office for 10 min and leave. Continue this for a month and see what happens. Trial and error approach.

Yes. Search return to office on the main page and you should be able to find the section that addresses this.
