Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Anyone in SRO?

I am and am a bit frustrated with the insane lack of US promotions and/or internal job openings... Sure, there are 5 openings that would bump me to the next level right now but, conveniently none are US based so they are useless. Not moving to Ireland for a 20k pay bump either lol. It'd cost me that much just to move.

Been here 6 years and I can't say I know a single US person who has been promoted yet. They are ALWAYS in India or Mexico or Ireland. ALWAYS!

The dude I shadowed while a contractor was an i8 who'd been there for 5 years already and is STILL an i8 - 10 years at the same grade level?

Well, SRO is currently 100% focused in making sure that our PCs are absolutely unusable because apparently every employee is seen as a potential thief. So, I am not sure there is time or budget left to come up with a security and career plan that actually makes any sense…

Welcome to HCLC, the club of High Cost of Labour Countries, where raises are insignificant, promotions extremely rare and you get only a couple of new openings a year (usually for Graduate positions).

What promotions..lol
Telecom failed miserably.. yet the current product managers are, the old operations team .., recycled as product mgrs. Shamelessly done. They have continued to retain people based on " liking" , not skillset.
Dell rot is bound to spread for another 5 yrs. Wait for more layoffs. This is going to be fun to watch.

@bk Maybe not the most important ORG but one of the most important. SRO is literally responsible for gatekeeping anything and everything security related - including cameras, physical security, badge readers, etc... - along with protecting Dell's assets.

I don't give a flying FUQUE if dell is breached as that's not my issue lol, that's far above my pay grade... i just do what im told like a good boy and use the cr-p tech that we have available.

@bk There has been one publicly known breach and it was a breach into a honeypot. - aka fake data.

Yeah, and do you know why? Because we never get a budget!!! Did you even read the post lol? We can only do so much with what we have and when new Shh!t comes about, we aren't given the money to you know... prevent it! Do you know how much firewalls cost? Or heck, licenses cost? MILLIONS! Chump change for Dell.

If your home were to be constantly under attack and I were to give you some security cameras, then it's literally your fault if you get robbed - or worse. What if I were to give you more advanced cameras, some defense tools to fight the intruders off with, and some bullet proof windows? I bet you'd feel a lot safer huh?

SRO also happens to monitor your every move while on your computer as well... Yes, we k;now what sites you go to. We know when you disconnect from VPN and when you are at home. We also know when you badge into a building and can see you on those cameras ;)

Tenure alone doesn't mean you should get promoted, by that logic everyone should be at least a VP by the time they hit 20 years.

First of all, not everyone wants to get promoted, but secondly not everyone has the skillset to move to the next level, and if they don't do anything to upskill themselves they won't.

@a5 You are not the most important org. Might actually be the most useless with the number of breaches there’s been in the last 2 years

Yes and it's ridiculous. We always get low or no budgets despite the literal fact that our org is arguably one of (my opinion is we are the second MOST important org) the most vital orgs in the entire company. Who knew that there are hackers out there who will gladly find their way into Dell and steal client info, credit cards, etc...?! But because we aren't a money generating org, we get overlooked until shhhit hits the fan and there is a real breach.

Then we are blamed and asked "how/why did this happen?!" Well, we've been asking for money to do things that 100% WOULD have prevented a breach but not our fault you execs are all JU's and choose to not spend money on the ONE org that quite literally exists to protect that money and information... Take the firewalls, VPN's, Proxy's, IDS, IPS's away and lets see how fast it takes for a RUssian or Chinese hacker to infiltrate the network, steal EVERYTHING, and cost Dell hundreds of millions of dollars + being known as an unsafe company to work with...

JS is a smart dude but he's also got his head up RR's fkn bhole and isn't doing what's best for the org he's in charge of...

That's because it costs more to promote someone from the US. It's called regional discrimination.
