Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Slash and burn. I'm out ... by choice.

So long. Leaving on my own after last week's ridiculousness. It was a slask and burn without care or consideration regarding who adds value or who can move to another org to increase efficiency and value delivery. This alone demonstrates this company considers us all as cogs and commodities.

I have had 2 exceptional ratings and the rest highly successful over many years. They don't deserve me. They don't deserve you.

Bain and other consultants eliminating rows on a spreadsheet makes no sense for a company that touts culture.

Don't be blind.

Yes the VP’s definitely planned a lot more of who got laid off. I know the tech ones last February were a surprise to them (and me, who got laid off). These weren’t necessarily better layoffs but the VP’s did much more to hit the numbers that the consultants gave them.

A core issue is that since last February there has been no strategy and lots of teams have had multiple managers and shifts so whatever VP happens to have a bunch of people in their group doesn’t know them or how to deploy them.

HR is gonna be like this person got good marks don’t fire them give them a random job elsewhere.

@c5+1jxzeheqp That is not the complaint. Reading comprehension is a skill.

@bj I'm mostly amazed that those VPs are under the delusion that despite having FEWER people and NO funding we're somehow going to build all these amazing apps to "streamline" or "create efficiencies."

Do they think this stuff just magically appears...for FREE?

Makes you wonder what they're smoking. Or at least, you HOPE that they're smoking something.

@bh Not speaking for OP, but I think it might have to do more with highlighting how nonsensical the restructurings are when talent that has historically performed very well aren't being used properly or are just being shoved into a new org/function without proper evaluation as to how or why the talent excelled in the first place.

Kind of like, hey this person is a high performer and they did really good work on these particular deliverables and somehow that translates to a reorg that goes "let's put them in a function that has NOTHING to do with any of what they were doing well in. That's a good use of their skills."

That's definitely what I'm seeing in certain areas. I know a lot of people whose talents are just being wasted because they got put in areas that either don't align with their skillsets or have some incompetent yes-person managing the team.

@aw if you're speaking about the tech call...So many buzz words, platitudes, and acronyms without anything solid being conveyed. I'm still not sure what they meant for us to know or understand through that hour.

I'm confused as to the purpose of this post. OP has had many successful annual reviews and wasn't let go? Doesn't that highlight that there was some consideration, at least when it came to OP?

If there was no consideration, then by OP's own logic, they should have been cut despite many successful ratings?

I don't know. I've also had a number of exceptional and highly successful ratings. I'm not so naive to think this solidifies my place during cuts.

Sat in an all team today that was an insult to my intelligence. The VPs think we are id--ts.

I'm going to be job hunting, I joined Nike a few years ago and it's been a disaster the whole time. Truly incompetent leadership, it's shocking. I wish I had some leverage or influence to try and make things su-k less but I don't, I am powerless and all I can do is leave

I heard the consultants weren't as hands-on with this one. This was the VPs.
