Micromanaging

My manager has made my working environment extremely toxic and uncomfortable by micromanaging and finding anything negative to nitpick at. The behavior is completely unwarranted & definitely unprofessional but it continues without fail, no matter how much I try to understand or exceed expectations. Any recourse I could seek? Would HR help? I want to even look into switching teams but I fear they’ll find a way to hinder that in anyway they can. I want to handle it the best way possible but I’m at my boiling point. I can’t even work in peace. Any advice or personal experiences?

Simple Sabotage Field Manual against Fascist Offices, 1944

(11d) Employees
(1) Work slowly. Think out ways to increase the number of movements necessary on your job: use a light hammer instead of a heavy one, try to make a small wrench do when a big one is necessary, use little force where considerable force is needed, and so on.

(2) Contrive as many interruptions to your work as you can: when changing the material on which you are working, as you would on a lathe or punch, take needless time to do it. If you are cutting, shaping or doing other measured work, measure dimensions twice as often as you need to. When you go to the lavatory, spend a longer time there than is necessary.

Forget tools so that you will have to go back after them.

(5) Do your work poorly and blame it on bad tools, machinery, or equipment. Complain that these things are preventing you from doing your job right.

(8) If possible, join or help organize a group for presenting employee problems to the management. See that the procedures adopted are as inconvenient as possible for the management, involving the presence of a large number of employees at each presentation, entailing more than one meeting for each grievance, bringing up problems which are largely imaginary, and so on.

"The Simple Sabotage Field Manual"

starting on page 28 is section 11:

(11) General Interference with Organizations and Production

I'm pretty sure management is familiar with section 12:

"(12) General Devices for Lowering Morale and Creating Confusion"

@a4 They protect the company from the wrong people in it too. It does not help the company to hire managers who don't have the interest of moving work forward. But especially those who are not of the mind to work on a team with others.

Do not trust HR. They exist to protect the company not you. Get a lawyer

Examples without giving it away? Fiserv hire people with skills or expertise there is no reason to micromanage people who know how to do their work better than a manager.... Basically 99% of the case of Fiserv

Congratulations, you have been chosen as your team's scapegoat to be 'managed out.' Your life will be miserable until you find another job, they fire you for not doing your job as assigned, or you get RIF'd. If you know that you aren't doing your job, clean up your act.

Just go to HR and tell them. They can't hinder that. Especially if you have a track record of exceeding expectations.
