Personal year 2021 objectives to submit by end of month

Here is one: Not getting laid off and getting a family of 4 cut off health insurance and income. Will that work?

$362 Billion in the COVID-19 Bill to bail out California and New York State deficits.

So... now I am old enough to have bailed out New York 3 times and California twice. This country is upside down. The more the incompetence, the higher the payoff.

What an upside down world this is.

Good objectives! Sadly, this is a one-way street workplace. We were told in our objectives (for individual contributors with 0 control over budget) to do more with less. That's like a domestic abuser telling his spouse who just got beat up, that "woman you need to do more with less around here!" They're so tone deaf and out of touch with their people. These aren't leaders at all!

I have been sending out resumes all f—ing weekend, I'm sick of this sh–!

I don't really care what "can be" it's irrelevant to everyone not charged with implementation until it 'is'. Plenty of automated processes fail.

@bcc+19PxEVQt, you sound like one of the tech secretaries trying to save their job! It absolutely can be automated. Try going to take some classes and getting some education. We know the tech here is a disaster.

I'm reading these objectives and gage reflex is coming on to me. All these sounds like someone was sitting and s—ing this sh— up from a finger. I would really like to see how upper management would lead us by example. ;-)
On top of all these nonsense we need to come up with our own objectives - one comes to mind "Say no to nonsense and own it".

"patching can be 100% automated", lol. If I had a nickel for every time a patch screwed things up and caused issues that had to be resolved by humans...

It’s not all overseas and it’s not all new grads. If anything the new hires are a little gobsmacked at “send this file to this person, they run a script on it and upload the results”. The new hires are plugged into how DevOps is done. The way we do things is shocking to them.

@bzn+19PxEVQt, probably your team is not experienced in current tech. No company does things manually anymore, and soon you will need exceptions to do anything manually, this place has to start moving faster to become a competitive company again.

Google and many others do 90k production deployments a week with no issue, daytime, nightntime doesnt matter and no one even knows, They manage 100k vm's with only 3 admins most of the staff is automation engineers or architects, and developers.

@vni+19PxEVQt, your right paperpushers making up fake work, basically doing nothing.

If your deployments are not going good, they probably are the overseas counterparts or workers with no experience like right out of college doing that side, so speak with the cio or someone who can find who is causing these issues.

@znn. Wrong again Einstein. I have nothing to do with ICS. But I am in tech and know you can’t automate everything.

I can also tell you deploys have gotten worse as far as issues since the automated tools started being used. So they either are not as great as advertised or you folks have no clue how to use them properly.

All patching and a whole lot of administration. And any of this “send a file to this person, they upload it to that server” stuff. I realize we’re desperately trying to make people look necessary, but we can only do that for so long.

@ysb+19PxEVQt, you are one of the manual patchers in ics I take it wasting company money!

ALL PATCHING CAN BE 100% AUTOMATED, all we need are people with automation skills to oversee and add this. No more manual workers.

Every time a new leader gets hired for big bucks and inserted in the food chain, another reorg happens so just stay turned.

My manager hasn’t even broached the subject yet. But I am one of 40 he manages now so he may not have gotten around to me. I have no idea what his expectations are because that communication hasn’t happened since day one. We will probably be reorganized again anyway, it has happened a lot in the last year.

Those who think you can automate everything is just fooling themselves.

some people in ics only install patches manually, that is patching and poor execution. That is not security function. Any patching can be 100% automated.

Objectives are fake, so dont waste a lot of time with it. Fake News and objectives are fake, managers always give most unskilled highest ratings since they lack experience in the fields they manage.

Be an agent for change. Encourage my team mates to see that our leaders are making decisions for the good of the company and for all of us. Look to the future with optimism and confidence.

Make it to the end of the year without letting my fake smile slip or accidentally saying out loud what I really think.

Spending all your time biting nails is a great way to underperform and justify all kinds of bad things happening to you. Better to do a great job and prepare for the worst, so if it happens it's an annoyance rather than freak out time. Build a good emergency fund, brush up that resume, set up job search agents/profiles, see what's out there so you know where you might want to go. These are all prudent things to do, no matter where you work.

2021 EOY objective, have a year's worth of saving stockpiled and finish as many classes towards a worthwhile degree as possible so I'm ready when the eventual layoff hits.

Oh, and do my job as time permits.

Our performance objectives are getting much weirder and more obviously stack-ranking. I’m looking at this and at initiatives that are obviously designed to make an entire team redundant and wondering why people on that team haven’t bailed yet.
