Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

How many feel this way?

As March 21 grows closer, or March 23 or 28 or 30 or whatever, I can barely contain my hopes that there really is a big chop and I am included. I don't think I would be included in the purposely small layoff waves for quite some time, so I view this as my best chance. This is in my self-interest only and I am sorry if there are others laid off who don't want to be. All that said, I will have to mentally pull myself together if I am not laid off this month.

Please be honest, how many are hoping to be laid off instead of fearing layoffs?

Yes I am hoping they lay me off. Thinking after 35 plus the severance would be granted. Would love to cut away from the ball and chain(laptop). In the meantime just keep up with DEI nonsense, the correct pronoun usuage and watch the clown show.

Never heard about taking bonus eligibility away!! If you meet the yearly requirements, then you should deserve the bonus!

I’ve never encountered a workplace where the majority of people I come across have a disdain for their employer.

This is serious culture rot, Charlie ruined this place. It’s honestly sad

On the same page with you!

These are dark times around here, but I am determined not to sour my spirit nor let it get under my skin. I refuse to give my power up to anyone. I am in control of my reactions, interpretations and intentions.

So as much as I love hating on the executives running our company, I love living a powerful life more. So I choose gratitude and I choose love. Maybe I can bring some light to this dark place.

Maybe I get laid off, maybe I don’t. I don’t have much control over that. But I can control my outlook right here and right now. I definitely need proper nutrition, exercise, meditation, journaling and music to help support my mental strength and ability to stay in the space of gratitude-it’s not easy! It takes effort!

Be strong and know that even little actions and thoughts make a difference. Don’t let “the man” control how you feel in this moment. You’ve got this and so do I.

See you around the water cooler!

Someday when the company is circling the drain for the final time, the CEO will bleat, "yeah, but look at these stunning RTO spreadsheet numbers and the progress of our DEI teams!!" as the flames of he-l finally engulf him.

A few years ago I would have rolled my eyes at this post. Loved my job, loved my team. Then NYC decided to destroy the company and take away everything I love about it. Every decision from the top is despicable and/or insulting. I can't even listen to them and their lying mouths anymore. The biggest problem is that what we do as a company is no longer about work at all. It's all BS on the periphery with a massive dose of 'good for thee, but not for me' coming from ultra entitled super rich ivory tower types. It's not sustainable, but in a sense I no longer care. The company I cared about is dead, and NYC ki-led it. There will be no comeback so long as CS/SP are running the show.

Very much appreciate the thoughtfulness of the comments here. Its like waiting to be shot. I've been at Wells for 11 years and truthfully can say that my experience for the first several years was the best in my life. Great teams, great managers, we were ki-ling it and I loved the sense of accomplishment, humor around the teams and great peeps.......but all good things come to an end and the last few years have been tough sledding. We'll get thru this. I'm guessing my ticket will be punched next week but who knows. I would love a break to just get myself healthy and go into the Wells detox as so many of my friends have over the last 3 years. Best of luck all!!!

There is no easy road to resolve unhappiness in the workplace, it requires very a honest effort to find a path that works. Nonetheless unhappiness, adversity, stress, etc are all subjective. The way you are feeling right now is not actually the way it really is.

We are interpreting things subjectively based on our chemical makeup, our personal health and social lives. At the very least, give yourself the best possible chance to manage your unhappiness being more intuitive/objective about yourself.

I, for example, know that poor nutrition and lack of exercise makes it more difficult to handle what life throws at you. It acts as an interesting bearing account, slowly builds up and compounds over time before you end up a zombie and unable to see a path forward.

The time to fight is now, take greater care of yourselves. Make one healthy choice today, whatever that may be. Less screen time, better diet, walk more, experience life outside of work (live music, socialize, etc). Find a way, smile along the way.

WF's paycheck to you is important, but you can have it while also taking some control back too.

From one unhappy team member to another, hugs.

I am also hoping to be laid off and will be very disappointed if I’m not. I wish WF would allow volunteers. They can play the waiting game and I’ll play too, if I have to.

I’ve busted my bu-t for this firm for many years. The last few have drained me to the core. Not because I can’t do the work but because the culture and leadership is awful on so many levels. I take some ownership for not having more grit to “be OK” with the daily cr-p show and toxic environment. One can only take so much.

Unfortunately, I keep hearing from a friend of someone who would know (insert grain of salt here) that I am not on the layoff list.

If my wish of displacement with severance wish is granted, I’ll take my time off to completely recharge and set myself up to excel somewhere else. I know I may not make anywhere near the same 6 figures or have the amount of time off I do now - and I’m OK with that. But I do want to hold out for severance to give me extra time to detox and reboot. And yes, I’m very aware that it may take a long time to get another job. I have a back up plan and won’t crumble if that happens.

Hi! I am the OP who made this comment in a different post yesterday. It's a small comfort that it resonated with anyone. One day later, I am just as pumped for being laid off, if not more.

What "scares" me though is the layoff rumors are a light at the end of a dark tunnel that will disappear in a snap if I'm not laid off. My mind has already started processing the glee of no longer doing work here that I find pointless and aggravating, and taking some time off to recharge my psyche for what's next. If I have to go back to the norm of doing this aggravating work and plotting my escape through standard job search while employed at WF, I will be pretty sad. I'll adapt and move on, but I can already feel how palpable the disappointment will be.

So I'll probably be back here on March 22 or 24 or 29 or 31 or whatever, trying to work through my sadness. Or not! If a layoff drops from the sky like a deus ex machina.

Praying to be laid off. RTO when hired as remote has me angry and quiet quitting. I can ride out the recession doing bare minimum. Voluntary layoffs would be in the company’s best interest.

/raises hand

A layoff would be scary as I've worked here pretty much my whole adult life (over 20 years), and I'm a single parent with multiple mouths to feed. Despite those challenges, it would afford me the opportunity I need to fix a gap in my background that, once remedied, would propel my career forward. It's the best thing WF could do for me TBH.

I've over stayed my welcome, so to speak. The layoffs are the only incentive to show up. To survive I have changed my daily approach to work, feeling a bit more liberated/free to craft my own narrative and build confidence for post-WF employment.

Hugs around to all, whether you want to stay or not. Zero judgement, we will get through this.

I recently quit, happy to be moving on with my life, leaving banking after 20+ years. Maybe if I'd stuck around a while I'd get severance but I think that would be a waste of time.

At this point I would like to be laid off.
I would put the severance money in savings and get a job that I know would pay less..but I wouldn't have to deal with this sh*t show anymore. I don't want to study for a cloud certification! I think the only reason I'm still on the team is because possibly I'm the lowest paid as WF took my bonus eligibility away a few years ago with job title reorg--so I don't give my 100% any longer.

Being laid off would be disruptive to some extent.

But at the same time, it would force me to get out of here and go somewhere else where I'd be happier.

I'd do it now, but Wells pays me more than anyone else would for the same work. I'm slowly getting around to skilling up though. Not easy to do when your job sucks and you have no oomph after work.

I'm with you, OP.

I'm just treading water here anymore, without any real duties or responsibilities.

Am the oldest person on my "team", and have pretty much been set aside. Only reason I'm still here at all is because it would be foolish for me to simply walk away from what's essentially a free 6-figure paycheck. They want to keep paying me, fine, I'll take their money...
