Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

What is the goal with the reorgs?

The way they’ve divided up some of these teams doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Agree. DEG and CO under the same 1L does not make sense. And nothing will be done with any titles on this upcoming contract. Watch.

I gaurantee you that most of us here would not have made the same Billion Dollar errors that Stankey and his Cabal have made!

CO and DEG are separate. DEG and SSIM can do the same Gpon, Bvoip, T1’s and others. DEG will be getting 28’ ladders and being dispatched on residential and business orders. Bonded pair Bvoips make good money. It only makes sense. Bring aerial and buried drop. You may sweat soon.

This post and the responses prove that everyone is still asleep.

Every reorg is a simple consolidation of employees we intend to keep or intend to layoff,
The first thing my team does when a reorg is announced is to take a look at the roles and locations of the employees being moved, and who they are joining. That should give you a clear picture of what is to become of them.

DEG is an extension of the CO, so combining them(perhaps ultimately into 1 title) does make sense or at least has merit. Paying BFS-SSIM to do prem/wire tech work is beyond ludicrous. It’s absolutely inexplicable how a company that claims to be so broke & so focused on cutting costs apparently enjoys overpaying for this work. Some higher ups obviously have some even higher ups fooled. Massive savings opportunity missed.

Not sure, but they need another reorg because DEG and BFS should be under the same Manager. THAT makes sense! Having DEG and CO together is some really d-mb sh*t.

If T would stop the incessant reorgs, they reduce the Finance team by at least 50%.

@b7 not seeing that under JVB as there is a lot of people in their 60’s with more years then I have been breathing. Seems to be location location, location with a lot of luck getting passed over during layoffs.

Churn and burn is what we were told. More layoffs ahead and will increase at the start of the new year so they can increase cash flow and make way for the sponsored H1B two year labor force that John talked about a while back. He clearly said he was looking for cheap two year labor that didn't stick around. That is how he described the younger workforce when he said he wanted to get rid of the older people.

To ensure directors and above have relevant jobs, they are leading “new” orgs, so we must need those people.

@b0 The re orgs at AT&T isn't change it's churn.

We have had a basic wireless and wireline network for decades and all of the functions, albeit under new names, are essentially the same.

Never saying never, but the vast majority of the ones at T are as productive as their mergers.

Constant reOrg is a true sign of an inefficient company that doesn’t know what it’s doing. If somebody smart was running the helm, they would understand the continuous reOrgs make it more difficult to get to their end goal of under 100,000 K for headcount. How do you bring a new leadership that has no idea what their team handles and and who is actually doing work versus who is just doing reporting or badging in and out without little to nothing . you need somebody who’s over the team that’s been with the team that understands the work inside and out to make sound decisions about where headcount reduction is possible without impact to services and customers.

sure, those are the talking points, in the same way that mergers address inefficiencies between companies.

Re orgs make it harder to hold people accountable so it's a way to protect executives. If a department is having trouble, re org, so you can reset all of the metrics.
