Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Verizon Pension

My Verizon net credit service is not recognized by Verizon benefits/pension, because I worked in three different parts of the company. I am literally days short of qualifying for my full unreduced pension benefit, even with them not recognizing all my years of service. This is just mind blowing to me having spent the majority of my adult life working for this company. I never would have imagined!

@fp It's to prevent you from suing for termination. Still has nothing to do with pension. You either qualify for pension or you don't. The employment attorney should be consulted for the pension if Benefits can't adequately explain the reason for the ineligibility.

@cn I’m not an employment attorney but by signing, you’re agreeing not to sue Verizon. All I’m saying is consult with an attorney before signing. If the attorney determines that signing isn’t detrimental to the OP’s case then let them sign. The severance pay is an incentive to protect Verizon from potential lawsuits.

You should be asking many questions. If you worked for this company for many years, it doesn't matter what sector. I watch my pension and I am not seeing that problem. You should definitely discuss with an attorney. Sounds like benefits doesn't know what they are doing. I have fought and won in the past with them.

This post sure took a turn. Pensions have absolutely nothing to do with severance so why even bring it up? To the @OP, did each of the subsidiaries you worked for qualify for a pension? If not, I wouldn't think that time would not be counted toward the time for a qualifying subsidiary. Was your service bridged when moving between subsidiaries? If not, why not. Someone in benefits needs to explain to you exactly why you do not qualify.

@ay+1kctj8f63 why would you not sign your severance agreement over a pension dispute? Two totally different things.

I call BS. Look at the various contracts you worked under. By contract language they must recognize any time worked and credited at the rate of the pension band you were under for the applicable contracts.

Verizon knows what they are doing. They give 45 days to sign the separation agreement to receive the severance package. Yet an appeal to the Verizon pension center takes up to 90 days.

If there are many people in the same situation, this could be a class action.

Sounds about right. I have gone several rounds with HR over the WARN requirements in CA. Time to file with the state

@OP Don’t sign your severance agreement and consult with an employment lawyer ASAP!

Sorry to hear that. If you have documentation perhaps Verizon has some type of appears board to consider the matter? Definitely check with HR and possibly an employment lawyer.

Good luck.
