Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

Layoffs and AI...

I think many people do not get it - AI will impact many jobs for the simple reason that in the past 30 years we created lots of so-called bullsh-t jobs and many of you are doing them. And AI will ki-l those, but that is ok. Personal assistants, auditors, project managers, Excel monkeys, recruiters, HR, etc. to name a few - all will be gone soon.

@gr You are wrong, and show a lack of understanding of what AI is bringing to the table. Save your pennies

@gr that why you get rid of the lowly associates and keep the directors and partners to make those judgements. Way more profit ber HC. Partners at big lay firms used to get 1K per hour now it’s $3K.

Wonder why?

@ca you are showing a lack of understanding of what researchers, lawyers, and doctors do…at least for attorneys, they assess and based on the facts and governing law, they make determinations and advise clients…if you have a novel question, there is no on point authority so then you analogize…AI will just speed of finding precedent but not sure if it can exercise the judgment that humans do … that is a key missing with AI: lack of judgment

@ga As if AI will replace every salesperson, trader, risk manager and only the Corner Officer bosses will be employed with an AI companion selling, trading, surveilling, reporting, accounting.

So people think if you are a developer, network engineer, or infra your jobs safe in the future? Lol. Nope. Keep feeding your code into the company AI, your ideas and your questions. They are taking all your stuff at this company and trying to get AI to do it place of headcount. It's not just PM, data governance, UI/UX, and excel heavy jobs at risk. Get with reality. Do your own research. Skill up in other areas.

Oh and if most of your day is spent sending emails and chasing ask for more actual projects to do (speaking from Tech perspective). Additionally, brush up your resume, network, and look for other jobs too.

And one more thing, I have had a career in one of your named BS jobs, and Im retired in my 40s now, due to investments I've made over the last 20 years. If you were half as smart as you think you are, you wouldn't be an employee anywhere. Cheers

Research is one of the most easily automated (via AI) skill sets there is. Ever heard of Google? That's nothing. Lawyers who look up precedent, Drs who reference prior cases, AI can do all of that. AI can do equity research.

Your post was childish and reeks of insecurity. You will wind up as worm food just like everyone else. Hopefully for your sake you turn the corner and learn how to be a nice person before it's all done. I feel sorry for you, but moreso for the people who have to put up with you.

So, here’s the deal with Citibank: their bureaucracy is next-level. On top of that, a lot of mid- and upper-level management—mostly from India—were taking kickbacks from outsourcing firms and hiring a ton of underqualified Indian workers. So yeah, they staffed up big time. Now they’re using the whole AI transformation excuse to do layoffs—when all this “transformation” stuff wraps up, a ton of people are getting cut.

@ba you got a 4 a did you get severance and if so do you get the 2-weeks per year? Asking for a friend who got a 4 and is awaiting the day he gets his layoff (eye roll)

Well when they don’t have you. Your job was creating everything in the company they will realize real lies.

I agree, I got Riff'ed.. and I was already using AI, even automating things using it where needed..was doing 3 persons work alone before I was given 4 and out. I know my position was not taken by AI yet, I know people who are not even familiar with AI as much as I do in my team or using it,still I was chosen ..as my manager felt threatened

@ax

Many aspects of my job are impossible to automate - it is close to research. So I will be fine.

Please pop back in here when YOUR position is declared a "bullsh-t job" and eliminated, and update us all on how much more you "get it" than us.

This could turn out how the previous generation of tech 'freed' us to be on call 24x7, become typesetters and graphic designers, create endless documents...

90% of the time, its bullsh-t. They literally need an excuse / scapegoat to be able to layoff a high percentage of their workforce without investors panicking. "AI is taking over jobs" sounds like a he-l of a lot better than "our growth is slowing and we need to fudge the numbers" to an investor
