Thread regarding Humana Inc. layoffs

For those who have left

For those who have left after 10 plus years at Humana, how are things outside? Are other jobs paying better? How’s the work life balance? Does the trauma ever fade? Did you receive your retirement or severance package without a glitch? I see many early retirees at new companies now, as well as people with tenure leaving- what was your breaking point? If you went to a competitor, did Humana ask you to leave the day you gave notice and pay out your notice period?

I literally JUMPED at the early retirement offer and left after nearly 18 years. The micromanagement was seriously impacting my mental health. Sleepless nights, constant migraines, impossible workload, etc. I was WAH and the first month off I could not bear to step into my home office, my heart rate would increase and I'd tense up. I'd get nightmares of the retirement offer being rescinded and I'd have to go back in....I swear it was like PTSD. The little I've heard from old coworkers after I left is that it's gone from bad to worse and they're drowning in stress.

I started w/ UN-humana in 2008. Tried, over & over for team lead roles, did medicare, csr, etc. Hubby got very ill & I was sole $$ for quite some time.
Moved, joined H again.
I was in the 'first' round of lay offs in 2017. Got severence, the wait for it was nearly unbearable. To say I was thrilled being out is an understatement.

(your trauma is real, btw)

Started OVER.
Began a business.
Worked a 2nd PT gig after 2020.

NO REGRETS, no sleepless, painful nights wondering or working my backside off for no return, appreciation or a better paying role.

THERE IS ABSOLUTELY LIFE after this horrible thing called Humana

Eventually, the slow, painful death it is going through will end.....this behemoth will die.
Be wise, get out now.

LIVE your life.

Outside of Humana is definitely better. Humana doesn't have a lot of lines of businesses. Solely reliant on CMS and lacks an understanding of health insurance. If you want to stay in Health insurance, join a health insurance that is owned by a healthcare system. There are health insurances that care about it's members and employees.

Found a much less stressful job after being at big H for over 10 years. Pay is less but I don't have daily stress and I sleep at night. Severance went without issues.

Left for 30% more pay and better benefits. Humana getting ready to implode so people need to be alert. Place is not stable and has lost too many good people. It was hard to go but I know the decision was right.

Retired after 9 years. No AIP. No Severance at all. Had my own Charles Schwab. That was it. Glad to be retired!

Retired after 16 years Jan 2024 got severance, etc OK. No hitches. Took me 12 months to decompress basically just slept and didnt do allll the things I thought I'd dive into after retiring. Not sure if that was just Humana or basically being in nursing / healthcare for 46 years. Feeling more normal now. Humana was OK for me with WAH and met my needs, but a lot of unnecessary nonsense and several toxic individuals went with it. I think thats probably true of most corporations.

I can say from someone who left (under 10 years) that there are always stressors, but its nice to work for a company that you aren't constantly worried about who is getting laid off next and what is getting cut next.

The stress under the right environment can go away.
