I’ve been at Nike a long time; even at its worst Nike is way better than a lot of jobs I worked before I found Nike. Most of you have no idea how sh---y some companies actually are. Don’t get me wrong, Nike has its faults. But this is nothing. QYB = quit your bi--hing.

Babes what are you all saying, you live in America. There has never been job security. The capitalism you love <3
All of this is hot air. @OP is insecure and hides behind grandstanding opinions: “I’ve seen it all, so shut up and worry like I do.”
The first goal of job security is making sure it can’t be used as leverage against you. Secure the freedom to speak for yourself without fear of consequence.
Interesting, I know for a fact that Google, Meta, and Amazon have been having rolling layoffs since 2022-2023… Let me not get started on smaller tech companies. OP is right and you all live in a bubble
@OP preach
@ak ok so maybe Nike does not owe me any career growth and yeah maybe other companies do jot have Speak up Portal but you know what? I do not know many companies who have had rolling layoffs for more than a year 🤔 nor do I know many companies who sent disturbing emails about layoffs on the damn new year eve! Nike did!
You’ve clearly worked there too long, that place is a dumpster fire. I had a better time working at McDonalds as a teenager.
@dh
Speak Up reports don’t fall on deaf ears, they create a paper trail. Just because leadership refuses to accept fair criticism doesn’t mean you should stay silent. Use them to document both your concerns and your exit. You’re given access codes for future legal reference.
@ak nailed it! Sadly the career growth equates to who you know and not what you know! Speaking up is a waste of energy! It falls on deaf ears that only care about themselves! True leaders are rare! They check the box for the survey and do fake things to claim they took action! The action ends up being them trying to figure out who said what so they can find a reason to get rid of them! If ya don’t like it it’s a choice you have to make!
Nike used to be a fun place to work when it cared about sport and its employees.
Sadly, those days are long gone, IMO.
[And I’ve worked at multiple Fortune 500 companies.]
@ak
Humans?
Nike is run by ghouls in boardrooms. Drop the hedge speak and be realistic.
Could not agree more with OP. Nike is not a utopia, but my worst day here is still better (by far) than my best day at my previous employers.
I don’t doubt that people have had bad experiences here - but if there was a company with zero issues, we’d all know about it and be trying to work there. Nike is run by humans, and humans are inherently fallible - here and everywhere else.
As for the Speak Up portal, maybe it works and maybe it doesn’t. But don’t fool yourself into thinking that it works well at other companies… or that all other companies even have something similar.
Finally, Nike does not exist to provide career growth, nor does it owe you career growth. Nike exists to make money and increase shareholder value. (We can have an entirely different conversation about that, but that’s where we are with capitalism.) The “career growth” I’ve witnessed at previous employers involved back-stabbing and other dirty tricks to get ahead.
Complain all you want, downvote my response if you’re inclined, I’m just trying to provide some perspective.
PM from GT here… Worked at various MAANG companies before Nike. I will never forget how I wanted to laugh when one of my interviewers (and many people after them) said things along the lines of “things at Nike get done really slowly, unlike MAANG…”. LOL absolutely not the case! Nike’s tech is slow… But working for Big Tech means barely anything you make will see the light of day and your impact is usually tiny, if any. We used to change directions over at G every quarter! Anyway there’s obviously problems here, especially with our disoriented leadership, but in my experience the grass is greener only while you are not on that other side. I’m sure there are better places. I know for a fact there are much worse. And honestly what matters the most is your immediate team and partners.
Op is gaslighting himself or herself!!!! Nike is a dead end for career growth! Yes if you want to take a 3 hour lunch and basically have no agenda during the day except showing up to a bunch of nonsense meeting or constantly shifting priorities from quarter to quarter yes Nike is a dream job but if you actually want meaningful work, learn some new techniques to stay relevant to industry and have a clear path to promotion, Nike is a dead end!
@a5
All that nonsense just to say, “don’t like it, leave.” How insightful. A real timeless debate closer. If speaking up for yourself at Nike feels like a risk, you haven’t faced adversity or learned how to prepare for it.
You think some of us haven’t already walked away from this place on our own terms after saying whatever we wanted? Motherfuċker, please. I filed “Speak Up” reports that sidelined my manager and director every other month for a year. I should share them one day.
Nothing about Nike is competent enough to be intimidating.
Tell that to all the people that been discriminated, impacted by bro culture and lack of actual leadership in the company.
Stop Drinking cool-aid
People have no idea how good life is at Nike until they go somewhere else. I have told people this for years. That’s why a lot come back or try to come back. You thought people don’t care about you here? Haha! Go to another big company and find out. See how much they care about your gym time or workout class during the day or work life balance.
I’m convinced that’s why people complain. They know it’s bad and hope somehow someone with power spares their team. Not because they hate it. If they did they would leave on their own. Yet they don’t…because they know it’s a sweet gig.
Ew, brother, ew! What's that? What's that brother?
