Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Which domains in GT had ETW cuts this week?

I heard there were extensive cuts to ETW contracts this week. Which domains were impacted? This was not the usual end-of-year baloney. I know of a few people who were just hired and then cut this week. GT leadership doesn't know how to plan and staff. It's really chaotic.

Our converse tech manager AG doesn’t even understand basic sql query. Our business stakeholders does write complex sql. We paid hefty amount to offshore team for databricks migration. Our tech lead KT doesn’t know python itself. They pay vendor every year to write apis and connect to external platforms. Now these two guys have to drive our team into future with databricks. They get rid of tech ppl who comes in their way by doing dirty politics. Can y’all believe there is no deployment process here. If I want I can delete all prod code. No one gets to know I did it. That’s the sad reality of our converse tech team. Nike leadership, please clean this sh-t here.

@x3 if you are having tech role title and knows just excel sheets, then I think it’s you who should look a role else where. Hope Nike cleans up all non technical people hiding under technical roles doing nasty politics to save their jobs.

@x3 wrong Nike IS a technology company.

Nike or Converse is not a tech company. If your aspirations is to grow in the tech space then look elsewhere.

Yes there is a market for converse brand particularly in Western Europe. With that same lean biggest, Nike could have more competent tech team than that mediocre excel batch. To connect to api, pay 50k to a vendor. To do databricks migration, hire 6 ppl offshore team for 300k. This is all wastage due to maintaining that non tech ppl. Director or manager needs to be replaced so that whole team gets updated.

Converse is just a residuals paycheck for Nike. They will never invest into it any more than the bare minimum, but it's still pulling in a nice profit considering how lean it's run. There is a good comparison on how we run the two companies where Nike is full of massive amounts of fat, but Converse is starved beggar being worked to the bone (not the employees, the company)

In converse, lead with basic SQL knowledge reports to non tech manager reports to non tech director reports to non tech sr. Director. I was baffled when director asked why we need GitHub? ..that team is a big joke. Nike tech team should go over it’s work. Whole team gets laid off..

@mj That describes many directors / leads even outside of Converse at Nike within Tech. The ETWs are used as a shield to deflect anyone from seeing their incompetence, followed by their own team.

@m7 that’s because no one is technically strong in that small team. Lead drives the team down the drain with bad practices and wants teammates to keep quiet to save his job. It was frustrating experience.

Thank you. I was concerned that the interview process focused heavily on behavioral questions, with limited technical assessment. This led me to believe that the team's interest might be primarily in my interpersonal skills rather than my technical abilities.

@ak converse is a trash, technically 10 years behind Nike and No growth as its a small team. You would look technically better than your manager, lead which they wouldn't like and kick you out eventually. I experienced it.

@ch 2nd this, those directors get rid of anyone who's good at their job if they make them look bad in comparison, kicking talent out the door, FTE and ETW otherwise. Waste of money that needs to be cleaned out.

Most teams had impacts. We lost 4 in-person yet have gotten the green light to hire 7 near shores. Mind boggling

Converse (NIKE) is hiring.. offer rolled out yesterday. Pay is less but knowing that it is stable job that they are still hiring - makes me feel better.

Does Converse ATL team get same benefits as Boston team.

SEC& CF impacted..

70-80% of team winding in Jun. It is going to be funny - how we keep business teams warm.

Looking forward to Holidays and hope there is sell through. I somehow think that there will not be enough demand and system will be capable of handling. A long road to recovery.
