Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Hans

I'm so thankful Hans is gone. That dude was an embarrassment and ran VZ even further into the gutter.

His DEI nonsense was not appreciated. He cried for George Floyd during an internal company webcast and THEN gave $1,000,000 to Al Sharpton's National Action Network! I was freaking livid!

He was the absolute worst and won't be missed

@a8 Who would be promoted from within?
I think Kyle M is pretty good and I appreciated his leadership. Most of the other folks are followers to whatever that next level up wanted.

I agree with the person who brought up that Verizon has basically turned to India

The problem is not DEI. The problem is Verizon lost its culture by an Indian takeover. They don’t know America. Get rid of Sampath, Shankar and infosys

@OP care to explain how this is related to how he ran the business? Sounds like another undercover racist just mad at anything that helps minorities but that’s just my opinion 🤷🏾‍♂️

amazingly true and as a tenured employee who had the opportunity to work under 5 Verizon legacy CEOs the board 100% missed on Hans and his European& DEI based Executive reports.

Results matter. To even think he stays on the bosrd and collects $24 M is a Board travesity

The shame is the heritage of the Ma Bell system takes the hit.

Why does everything in America have to devolve into political bullsh-t like this...

Hans... Possibly the only man alive who has now singlehandedly destroyed two completely different companies while simultaneously making himself as rich as God.

@a8 First, try and define "woke" and "DEI" for us. Second - who would you have promoted from within (ignoring the fact he was on the board already, so I think that counts as from within) Sampath?

Hans is gone, why keep posting this sh-t? Doesn’t matter anymore. Move on!

What is this drivel. Diversity focus on staffing always increases value, because a diverse labor force covers blind spots and biases and allows you to better respond to the market.

Just shut the heck up already.

@a3 you sound so ignorant. They are not mutually exclusive. Many companies retained their DEI policies are are still very profitable

@ag basking ridge was just recently celebrating the Indian takeover! Proud to work for a company that focuses on cultural invasion over products and services. No wonder customers leave in droves when they see what execs focus on while they are left with horrendous outsourced service. Deplorable!

@ae Can you define for the group what is DEI & WOKE?

Verizon outsourcing jobs to India trying to appease shareholders instead of being a proud American company is the reason for its downfall.

The culture from our peak is long gone. Indian culture won’t sell to American consumers

@ab I will have to disagree with you on the DEI is the reason why Costco is doing better than Best Buy, Target etc... I think it's more people are broke and buying at Costco is more cost-effective than local grocery stores for the vast majority of people. DEI is just reverse racism, and people should all be hired based off their abilities not their skin tone to fill some quota.

Well, while I agree with all OP says, Hans is not to blame, I do think he forced his way in....it is the same guy at the helm right now and his BOD who knew that Hans was kicked out from Ericsson and still hired him....took the BOD so many years of failure to do the right thing......go figure

Bold statement, considering Costco doubled-down on DEI and their margins have rose more than 12% this year. Other companies, like Target, Best Buy, Tractor Supply, etc. who ditched their DEI campaigns have seen massive declines in their financial performance.

Not defending Hans' terrible leadership, but DEI, woke, socialism, etc. are all conservative boogyman words to keep people distracted; it's not the reason Verizon has been failing.

Going all-in on 5GMM and failing to realize that customers scrolling Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc. are getting the same experience at 20 mb/s download with TMO as they are with 100 mb/s with Verizon (and paying way more) is why we're failing.

Outsourcing our customer service to vendors, who say anything to get a sale, transfer a customer 10 times to avoid a disconnect or credit, etc. put today's stock price above tomorrow's brand reputation. A decade ago, Verizon had the best customer service, now we're no better than Comcast.

Caring only about the shareholders and not about employees / customer's is why Verizon is failing. Gone are the days of team-building events, catered meals, meaningful recognition, great phone plan benefits, etc. Turns out, employees won't give you their all if Verizon treats them as an unfortunate cost.

Why would Verizon ever hire this guy Hans? His DEI programs did nothing but hurt the company. Now they’re talking about laying off 25% of management. I hope the new CEO wakes up and gets rid of woke. I do not know much about the new guy, but they should’ve promoted within.
