Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

RTO Hunger Games day 3

How is everyone holding up? It’s been a sh-tshow these last couple days. When do we think changes are coming?

“Hun, My husband works at a company where the only way you get a raise is if you’re promoted. There are no raises for cost of living increases/inflation.”

What does that say about you that you married someone that works at a car wash full time? You should get him a job here at T if you have it so good, “hun.”

“ My husband works at a company where the only way you get a raise is if you’re promoted. There are no raises for cost of living increases/inflation. There are no meritocracy-based raises. He lost half of his take-home pay during Covid because half of his pay is bonus-driven based on company (not personal) performance.”

I’ve worked at similar companies. Keyword worked. It is 100% abusive. Believe me I’ve seen it. Been there done that a few time. When I came to ATT from that 14 years ago, it was great. But I’ve also seen this place decline like nobody’s business and some groups turn into absolute sweat shops. Yes, most of us at ATT have it pretty good, 40 and the door. Some, do not and are dealing with similar exploitive tactics. Grossly overworked, no time off, etc. this used to be a great place to work, now it is quickly turning into the nasty companies I worked at before.

Guess what? More than one thing can be true. Sounds like your husband's place is horrible. Not sure why he's stayed.

That doesn't mean it doesn't su-k here. Maybe to a lesser extent but we don't have to be in the very worst situation to air grievances.

Not offshore. Not support. Not Sanjeep.

@ @a9+1jh37m62a:

Hon, 1/2 to 1/3 of the pay that you take home is NOT derived from bonuses at AT&T. I work at AT&T. And we get a cost-of-living increase every year. It might be one percent. It might be three. But we get something.

My husband works at a company where the only way you get a raise is if you’re promoted. There are no raises for cost of living increases/inflation. There are no meritocracy-based raises. He lost half of his take-home pay during Covid because half of his pay is bonus-driven based on company (not personal) performance.

So to make this easy math for you imagine you make $100,000 and $50k of it is bonus-driven, and not for your personal achievements.

You all have NO idea how easy we have it at this company. At my husband’s company if you’re not a top performer, you’re let go. There’s no 401(k). There is a simple IRA, and I don’t know how much you know about those, but I can tell you: they they’re not that great.

You have no idea how good you have it, so I pray to God you never have to go out there into the real world, because you are in for a very, very rude awakening.

Most of the people that work at this company are the equivalent of a millennial living in their parents’ basement. You wouldn’t know a hard days work if it hit you in the b-m.

Most people on here sound like a French person just constant carping, and complaining.

"Try working for a company where there’s layoffs incessantly, no cost of living increases, where 1/3 to 1/2 of your pay is bonus driven, and not necessarily for individual contributions"

You described ATT perfectly. except for the bonus part. ATT lowered bonus rates several years ago so it is a smaller part of your annual income, though your annual income has not risen that much because raises are a lot less than CoL increases. Of course, that is for all the worker bees. The C Suite has made sure their compensation increases far outweigh inflation.

Precisely. People are so entitled, expecting basic accommodations when they are mandated into the office.

Providing those might slice into exec compensation, so they will never happen. Everyone should just get over it, and use that energy to produce more for the enterprise.

I really hope none of you ever have to go out into the real world and find a job because it’s gonna be hysterical. People on here are complaining about no room in the refrigerator for their lunches and having to go into an office. 😂

Try working for a company where there’s layoffs incessantly, no cost of living increases, where 1/3 to 1/2 of your pay is bonus driven, and not necessarily for individual contributions

Again, you guys are right where you belong in a communist style company and God help you if you have to go out there and really work

I’ve actually made a couple new friends who work in my local office. I wasn’t expecting that.

Nothing will change until there is a negative impact to the bottom line (won’t happen), or if the news of working conditions goes public. Contact OSHA and report the issues of having to sit on the floor or not having a proper chair and desk set up is a risk of bodily injury under the general duty. Notice there hasn’t been any ergonomics training since PRE-RTO 2023?

There haven’t been any issues. Members of my team are noticably more available now in the late afternoons. RTO was the right decision.

I am making the best of it. I am an early riser naturally so I get here before the parking deck is full and I am able to find a table to sit at. The positive side is that I do my 8 hours, working through lunch, which gives me plenty of time to hit Costco on the way home and still beat traffic. 8 & skate, it can wait!
