in a world of ai, it doesn’t make sense to send work to people who don’t directly interact with assets because the bottleneck is now human interaction and physical changes on a site instead of any technical work.
therefore india no long is cheaper. do you get it? outsourcing technical skills is dying. bigger salary can overcome wasting 12 hours a pop on decision turn around time or more. to say nothing of the super common need for supervision and rework.
if you don’t believe me, take a look at the indian stock market and the tickers of indias most lucrative outsourcing shops.

@a5 I agree 100%, Houston exceptionalism will come back to bite them. There's a perception that suddenly Houston can manage the global remotely when they have never been able to do that effectively. They've sc--wed it up every time they've tried, not because they're useless but because it's really hard to do and next to impossible when you've dumped all of the knowledgeable local personnel.
Look no further than Canada, where actual expertise is being lost on the daily to be replaced by generalists and technicians. This stupid move imagines that people in the US and India will be able to take on the expertise of the globe, but misses that the only way Houston is successful currently is due to the partnership with deep local knowledge. American arrogance at its finest - seems to be a common trend.
