Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Is there growth for remote employees?

Just curious if there was potential growth/promotion for remote employees? Or do they only give opportunities to those who are near a hub..

Is this not discriminatory for people with a WFH accommodation? Those are only granted for medical disabilities.

join the Cloud program, but with one consideration — all of AC’s direct reports are currently male.

If you are remote, look at it as a job. If you want a career path with progression, look elsewhere.

I know someone that is remote that went from grade 13 to 14 and moved to a different part of the bank. I guess you need to be picked by the higher ups.

Growth/promotion? I'd be content just not getting laid off. Being remote is in itself a promotion for me.

@139, you are missing the point. Yes, some roles absolutely make sense. The specific roles in question are ones that are already being done remotely, however to go from a grade 10 to 11 or 11 to 12 etc (which is more pay, additional responsibilities but SAME work) is where employees are being told no simply for not being in a hub, regardless of qualifications and the fact it’s not customer facing.

You don’t understand employment law, that’s why it is beyond you. If you live in New York and apply for a new job in LA, why would you think you have a right to be considered for the role unless you plan on moving. The sense of entitlement is disgusting.

I can confirm as someone who recently applied for a promotion to a role I already do that guidance was given that remote employees will not be considered. “Move to a HUB” was the recruiters answer. How this is not illegal or class actionable is beyond me.

Remote employee here. I will tell you from firsthand experience that there is no opportunity for movement, even lateral or demotion. You are stuck unless willing to commute to a hub or you leave. It is very depressing.

Absolutely not. Don't even try because they do not value anyone outside of a hub. Heck, they don't even vale the employees with the radius of a hub, but if you are looking for remote work look anywhere else. This is not the place.

No. We hired a lateral grade 13 that was remote. He’s now hybrid.

I have always been very career motivated, and aspired to make one more "big splash" before I wind down my career. But at this point I have accepted that my options here are very limited and my strategy is to either just do a decent job for another 5-6 years and try not to get laid off while continuing to collect my paycheck and bonus, and then retire. Anything else seems like it would require finding a new employer. I never thought things would go this direction but here we are.

@ap sage advice. Yes move to a hub and there will be TONS of opportunity.

Just kidding we're laying you off and moving your job to Poland bye.

@b1 HR id--ts strike again! Sometime in the future from now there will be books and case studies on how HR/Personnel Management are the bane of every company. They are literally a Trojan Horse.

About 6 months ago I had a remote employee who was interviewing for a people leader position. Made it through the final interview phase and everything. When it came time to give her the role, HR hard stopped that due to her being remote. Told her that she is welcome to apply for individual contributor roles but that remote employees are not eligible for people leader roles.

She immediately applied out and is now working for another organization that allows and promotes remote workers.

This is one area where I hope GK adjusts now that she’s in charge. I understand the need to consolidate office space but there were many cities where there was a significant employee presence in office pre-covid and are now not “hubs” but client centers. The client centers hold a very minimal amount of people and everyone else was forced to be remote. Even when asked for space in the “client centers” the answer is no.

Someone asked this questions on a division call with about 3000 people on the call and the leader of the division said remote people should move to hub locations if they want promotion.

@af thats not what the updated FAQs say on the return to office faqs page. There was something added in September saying that no you will not be limited in promotions or allowed to apply for new jobs. Maybe they legally cant say it and its just a unwritten rule.

We had an open spot in my area and it was specifically said that it's not open to remote employees. Needless to say it had basically zero internal applicants.

What I am hearing from management as a manager myself, I am hearing that there is most likely going to be a new unwritten rule that people who are not assigned a hub will not get promotions or be allowed to take on new jobs.

They can get exceptional ratings and raises and bonuses but not promotions from one level to the next or new jobs.

That's what I'm hearing.

@a6 I can confirm this personally. Approval to even interview any one outside of posted hub is L3/L4 approval and they are not approving.

I know individuals that are remote not near a hub that have received promotions however they were told any people leader positions need to be near a hub. So promotions will be limited.

Case by case basis. I know of people who have moved up in grade as remote employees yet received no salary increase. I also know of remote workers who are told ‘no’ even for lateral moves because they are remote. The company is absolutely blocking opportunities for remote workers, unless of course the remote worker is someone’s protected pet. Take their money while you can…

Heard from many people that no, you will not be considered for any job opening, even lateral.
