Thread regarding Oracle Corp. layoffs

OCI AI Company, pure marketing

That’s interesting is that Oracle now brands itself as “OCI AI Infrastructure” and calls itself a “real AI company.”
But Oracle has no proprietary AI models (unlike Meta, Google, or Microsoft) and no in-house chips (Meta has, Microsoft soon will, Google and AWS already do).
So Oracle is effectively a reseller of other companies’ hardware and models, with much thinner margins.
How can a firm like that credibly call itself an AI company? Pure marketing.

"bet is that O will gradually and steadily phase out O Classic"

That may not be an O decision, but customers getting back after years and years ...

Once Ai bubble burst, Oracle will hit the rock bottom, with no real staff to handle work.

@eb | My big bet is ORCL splits into two companies:
1) “OCI AI Infrastructure” - GPUs, OCI, PaaS, MC and 26AI (Some Field Reps)
2) "Oracle Classic" - Legacy Software, Hardware, Support and SaaS. (mostly SDR/Direct Reps)

Kind of what HP did, but that didn't happen until Bill and Dave were long gone.

As long as LE is alive, I don’t see how he would allow the split of his company. He owes too much of it.

Regarding options of database in the market, there are lots of databases available; the issue is companies like big banks who use Oracle DB don’t want to switch because it’s just too complicated and huge data at risk.

The split of the company is already foreseen by some market analyst. All this artificial stock change raise is a movement to prepare that split, and incidentally the selling of one of the parts to a main competitor. LE being in such good terms with Trump obviously pays dividends. Having said that, in Oracle the lack of pure talent in most of the management is hard to believe, not to say most of the sales reps in all LOBs are useless

LE and SC knew all along they what had leftover was "Dinosaur Bones" so they had to pivot to GPUs about 3 years ago just to stay relevant.

The 26AI bs is just to try and save market share to remain relevant. ORCL cannot be replaced by SNOW, Data Bricks, Amazon Web Services (AWS) with Amazon Redshift and EMR, Google Cloud with BigQuery and Dataproc, and Microsoft with Azure Synapse Analytics. or they are doomed.

Thus the Total capitulation to AWS,AZ, GCP. Try and keep 26AI relevant.

The modern data platform is just a race to catalogue data so the models can be leveraged: Orchestration, Cataloguing, Goldgate Replication, Analytics, and Integration. Every company is chasing this same model to stay relevant.
The race is on !

My big bet is ORCL splits into two companies:
1) “OCI AI Infrastructure” - GPUs, OCI, PaaS, MC and 26AI (Some Field Reps)
2) "Oracle Classic" - Legacy Software, Hardware, Support and SaaS. (mostly SDR/Direct Reps)

Guessing OU is 2 years.
Place your bets!

If Oracle does not take on too much debt, they could possibly buy “failing” AI companies. Not all these firms will survive and that includes Oracle

From day one, Oracle is first and foremost a database company; it had a big breakthrough when it allowed in its cloud Azure, AWS and google native clouds to be compatible with its database; and then continued riding this wave with buying Nvidia AI chips; companies who were using Oracle database needed this compatibility with other clouds
