HR involvement in PIP

After being a Star Performer till mid year, I was handed a PIP for the latter half of the year and put in Groupo 5 and served PIP. Through out the PIP for 2 months, HR did not show up even once, and after 60 days, I was terminated with notice period.
Again, HR was not involved at all. Is this normal?

@op - are you in tech or risk divisions? If so, you are pretty sc--wed. They are notoriously bad groups.

You need to appeal unjustified bad ratings to HR, especially if you were given no feedback on being underperforming during the year. The whole process is so corrupt.
HR need to feel the pain of the mandatory bad rankings with workers fighting it.

I was in a similar situation forced out by HR making the decision on pip without managers consent. Very unfortunate and sorry for you, I am very happy that it happened to me as I am in a very different (better) place.

I sued them a they settled can’t disclose more cos of disclosure I have signed.

So, when put on lowest rating and let go, we are not eligible for the typical severance? Referring to 2 weeks per year of service.
How about state unemployment? Does they flag your termination that will make us ineligible for state unemployment?

I think all of us will be on a PIP with our salaries being paid to the exco after we leave.

Correct. HR is there to protect the company. Not the employee.

When HR wants to do business or work out a problem with staff, the company reviewed the damage and negotiations are the least expensive option.

It is standard modus operandi. I went through something similar. After that they replaced my role with a junior associate from offshore. The pip process is bogus. BNY is one of the worst companies I have ever worked for. It is pathetic and a very toxic environment. I found another job with promotion and more pay. I am so glad to be out of the sh---y company

@c5 Sorry to hear that. I am still getting paid bi-weekly till October 21. I don’t know if it is sub or severance but yes getting paid. I think my boss was generous with me even though he put me on PIP. I think he fought so that I can get severance. I was not liked by his boss. She hated me and I always felt that my skin color played a big role. I remember going into office and she would say good morning to everyone except me and if I said something in meeting she would just ignore. So I think that it was my boss who got me that sub/severance for 8 weeks. Other than that I had been there for only 4 years and few months. Not being arrogant but I was really really good at my job. I am not good at playing politics well and not as a-s kisser.

I was surprised that I got severance but here is what I will tell you if you get put on PIP start looking take vacations days, sick days and use your work from anywhere. The market is terrible and one sure way of getting job is through referral. Good luck

I was put on one. Luckily my old boss left and my new boss didn’t think I deserved it. So I passed all requirements. This place is shady.

A PIP isn't a Performance Improvement Plan - it's just an advance layoff notice. If you get put on a PIP, take all your sick leave, vacation, etc, and start job hunting.

@a5 I was not given any severance.
What is the criteria for severance?

Every BNY employee in the US is an at will employee. Anyone can be fired at basically any time. PIP is the easiest way to remove an employee. Mangers were given a quota of 10% PIP at mid-year. Anyone on that list will be culled if your department needs cost cutting.

Sorry that happened to you. I was put on PIP and was given only 30 days to improve. I was let go and got severance for next 8 weeks. This is normal. Hope you find something soon.

Yes.
HR means Hiring Removal.
You were removed simply because you cost too much.
HR’s job is to make sure Management is protected while they poach well meaning employees like you for cost savings.
Be glad you are out of this poison bottle.

Crazy story. If you were a great employee they would always make room for you. Probably didn't RTO quick enough and picked a bad employer
