Stankey-Legg hate this one simple trick

Leave your laptop at the office all the time and the Average Hours Report is no longer a concern, there’s no reason to bring work home anyway!

Can someone explain why locking your laptop in a locker at the office is a COBC violation? We use to lock our offices at night with our laptops before Covid and only took them home when/if needed to do work in the evening? How has this changed and if so someone needs to explain the new rules...Can you point us to where we might see this COBC violation? If going out in the evening it is safer locked at work then left in our car.

Cable lock.
Battery only.
Power settings- on battery shut down after 2 hrs.
A few times a month should improve your average.

I haven’t brought my laptop home in months. I work 7 to 3 and I’m out. You want to treat me like an hourly employee then I’ll act like one.

"They will record all 24 hours of the machine pinging in office on the network"

I figured they would stop recording outside the core hours that we keep hearing about, or at least only record from 6am-6pm.

If laptop is connected more than 12 hours presence report shows 0 hours for that day. This trick will not work.

100% not true. They will record all 24 hours of the machine pinging in office on the network even if screen locked including weekends and then cap it at 12 hours on the presence report. Their system is so f*cked up, they can't even figure out how to deal with desktop machines like this. Have to believe laptops have the same sc--wed up software.

Of course we unplug them but why must we haul them in and out daily if we have a locker?? We have a COU device for contact after hours and for checking mail etc.

@bp Why would my laptop not be in the office at all times?

If you left your laptop at work and say plugged in and turn on, why would it only register 12 hours versus 24?

They already solved this problem by not giving you assigned office space. Nowhere you can lock up the machine, much less leave it plugged in.

Long periods of network presence trigger further reviews of idle time/screen locks.

If you are only supposed to work at the office, why would you ever take the laptop home? I never take my laptop anywhere.

"we were informed early on that leaving laptops plugged in"

No need to leave the laptop plugged in since it connects to the network automatically. But that is really not the issue. I want to leave it at work so I do not have to carry it anywhere since there is no point. I was hoping they would put lockers in 1057 to lock up the computers over night.

@a8

Management doesn't know what is doing, lots of politics, they came up with "something".

Q1 barely had revenue growth, growth was below inflation, operating expenses grew compared to same Q last year (those are problems, among many other issues). Net income and op cash grew, giving a little "better" margin (but that can be from just "business paralysis" dunno, still not enough to course-correct strategy).

Just keeping head down and hoping for the best.... :-(

Sounds like desperate move and trickle down blame. Agree / disagree?

I am still allowed to work in a non-hub location. I also have access to a private office which I walk every night. And I leave my laptop powered on inside the walked office. If my boss requires me to login, I have my COU and a tablet both furnished by the firm using this method I get around there required time in the office, regardless of how effective their tools are, and of course, I badge in every day. Let me know your thoughts on this approach.

" Realistically how would they flag it? "

Yeah, dunno.

The fact that they can't seem to get even the basics of the PR dialed in at all, leads me to believe that yes, this would be beyond anything they are capable of.

@ae Realistically how would they flag it? The report shows some people coming in over 12 hours so it’s not like they can tell. Sure they’re fine

COBC violation or not, we were informed early on that leaving laptops plugged in while not there was not allowed, and they would somehow "flag" this tactic. Also, where this is drop in space, it's not allowed from that angle as well.

Just passing along what my group was told. I have no doubt that some of you are doing so with no issues.

There are few people whose badge was not working and still they marked as coffee badger and terminated and put under cobc. And worst part is HRBP said they have video evidences. They know that system logs were also not accurate and their investigations were also wrong but they just generalized based on some random investigation. They know who are those who wrongly terminated but now they can’t undo it.

There is no way to terminate employees without severance so this wrongful tricks are being used. I highly doubt they know presence report is wrong, system logs are wrong an badge swiping are faulty, so they are taking advantage of it. And if you put someone under cobc then it means employee was indisciplined and employer will not like to discuss it or let any one know that they are fired under cobc. And no one will take any action or do anything against them. Because all conc terminated employees will like to save their name and not let others know that they are fired for a cobc violation.

@a5

Plus, if someone does great work in 6-7 hours, will they get punished while those that accomplished nothing in 9-10 hours and have long lunches and coffee breaks are "fine"?

This sounds like "we don't know what we are doing, but we will micromanage you and we came up with something"! - thoughts?

"COBC violation , and you are fired."

so people who have DESKTOP PC's are supposed to unplug them at take them home??....

Presence report or system logs are not appropriate, even badge swipe is faulty. These can’t be used for cobc violation. Its big time fraud HRBP is doing. Actually its HRBP who are doing cobc violation and accusing employees under cobc.
