Thread regarding AT&T layoffs

Will a real leader come forward?

With the very recent surplus notifications that spread far and wide across the company you’d think at least one senior leader would address it. Are they under HR gag orders? This is not how you lead a workforce gutted yet again. To surplus the amount of people (even if only one) and not address the organization is a dereliction of duty. Those within soon to be on the outside to pick up the pieces of their lives, and those that still remain to piece together fragments of what others left behind is minimized by the lack of leadership transparency and communication.

Why would a senior leader speak out about att surplus. It's normal in corporate America. It's been a part off atts normal operation for many years. Are people really surprised by this?

Just go to work, get your hourly wage, that most of America would laugh at you for complaining. Do worry about the next day, just be glad you have a job today. The top one percent of America the ones on multiple board or with family wealth don’t care about ypur problems, or your worries.
They actually believe they deserve 100 times the average hourly employee. Be glad you have this job today, because you will mess it tomorrow. You done have to like your boss or your job to enjoy the healthcare and the paychecks.

@cm I was referring to people already rule of 75. If you already were there and didn’t take it, that was on you and there were so many that were and stayed. I wasn’t referring to people that weren’t eligible, notice my post says retirement eligible. A lot of people in that boat kick themselves now. You can always cut out, take the pension and find something else to do. Doesn’t mean you can’t work. I know plenty of people that retired from one place and work somewhere else because they like working or just like the extra money. I definitely wouldn’t stay here if I didn’t have to.

The only people who are employed here going forward are fully controlled, nodding head, yes men. Nobody in any position of people management or power of any kind has authority to make any of their own decisions. This is a top down dictatorship stank-circus.

what an ignorant post — all didn’t make a choice… we were 46+…. we didn’t have the option to retire so we were just told midstream were srewd out of retiree health benefits 50+
had it worseZ Yes some were retirement eligible and could have left but many of us had 10
plus years to go only to find out we’d have no retirement health benefits.
It was a horrible selfish thing Stank did. No reason for it when his salary and other non deserving execs kept ridiculous high salaries.

“The employees who were retirement eligible all received ample warning of the change and info about the implications of not retiring at the time. There is no sympathy now. Those who lost medical benefits made a choice.”

I have to agree with this. Yes, it was a terrible thing the company did; however, you all made that choice to stay “a couple more years” when you should have left and if you still wanted to work “a couple more years,” find something else or come back as a consultant. Way too many people at this company well past retirement eligible hanging on for what reason, idk. Just scared to leave is my guess. A lot of them say well, who’s going to do my job? Yeah, the bosses don’t care and we’ll figure it out. I love these folks and yes, it sounds cynical of me, but I don’t want to see them stay here and suffer for nothing. Stay and suffer under the oppressive rules we have, the severance isn’t worth it. If severance is all you’re waiting on, raise your hand for the next layoff (should be in Sept or Nov/Dec). For me, I have a few more years until I can retire, I won’t be waiting around, I’d leave today if I could. If a better job came along, I’d also head out. Unfortunately, I’m at that age where I still need to make the salary I make (more preferred), but I’m old enough (mid 40s) where it’s difficult to get a new job despite my skills (I’m in tech, there is age bias).

The real leaders will never see a position of authority nor have the ability to change anything anyway. Damn near all promotions are decided by who you know not merit or ability. This company is declining and needs to have the existing upper management cleaned out.

@a4 this is only a first wave of what is to come. T wants nothing more than to run with contract labor. Look at forge fiber and gigafiber.

“Leadership” will absolutely not say anything as they are under a NDA.
Anything that they could share, they won’t and they will deflect.

I agree with your level of astonishment that a leader — especially a board member — hasn’t had the courage to change leadership.
But it’s not as astonishing that Stankey was able to do what he did… take away retiree medical benefits mid stream for people who were told that at their employment start. At least people joining today are getting the truth - no benefits at retirement, no pension etc.
Lastly, how can Stankey himself and the board members think he deserves $27M a year in compensation.

Lastly, We’ve been hearing about lawsuits — most because of his doings. How much are these legal issues causing stockholders and impacting jobs? Why isn’t anyone picking this up? Enron had a movie made to expose
the corrupted. Who/when will AT&T be called out? Maybe someone with money will take an interest in this destruction and expose
the evil Stankey and his regime. We can only hope…
