Thread regarding Edward Jones layoffs

Another sleepless night

We take pride in being human centered but this entire charade has been anything but...... Monday we all had to sit in front of a computer with no meetings watching the time tick away just waiting for your turn. Everytime you heard the chime of your computer you jumped to see if you were being pulled into a meeting with a GP to find out your fate. You watched your colleagues and friends get fired. Even if you didn't get one of those calls now your left with anxiety of what's my future or survivors guilt of why were you saved and everyone else is gone? Last night was worse, no sleep because everyone around me was let go and my team is getting split up to several areas and I will no longer be with them but as a leader who cares I worry that they are being set up for failure.

The saddest part is the firm lied. They made the ISP sound like not a big deal. They will give us at lest 60 days notice. Then at the 11th hour they shared our last day to work was Sept 5th then at the 11th hour and 59 minutes they said by the way once you get ISP'd no more access to systems or the building. Really you are done after that call. AND you can't talk to anyone until Wednesday. We don't even get to say goodbye to people. That's what hurts the most. These are people we have worked with for 15, 20 or 25 years. They are our family. We have always supported each other. Sorry ELT you will never have to experience the anxiety or mental anguish we have over the past 5 months. This has been so cruel on so many levels. Good luck to everyone today and the rest of the week. May you find the peace you need and may God watch over all of you and provide what is needed for you and your families

It’s crazy that we have an entire change management team and yet these were the results. I bet none of those clowns got laid off.

17 years of loyalty to and love for the firm and this is how we got “displaced”. It feels like a tremendous slap in the face. I’ve worked here since I was an intern in college and worked my tail off to get where I am now (or was). I’m heartbroken and infuriated that we were blatantly lied to about what this process would look like. ELT should be ashamed but what do they care? Ted would be so ashamed of what they have “reimagined” this firm (which he selflessly gave to the employees) to be in its current state. Now starting all over with no idea where to even begin. My whole world has been turned upside down and I was completely blindsided.

@a9 I totally get this, but I also think the ELT did no one any favors in how they explained and rolled this out. They did genuinely make it seem like it would be a slow rolling notice and offboarding period. I 100 percent get why people are shocked and disappointed because even if it is standard, it is antithetical to the culture we supposedly have here and ELT did nothing to adequately prepare anyone for such a thing. They claimed transparency but obfuscated a lot of things and it has made this harder on people.

Sending you a virtual hug, stranger. I went to bed a few hours late because my body couldn't decide if I was going to have a genuine panic attack or just keep my heart rate devastatingly high for no good reason and my spouse wanted to make sure I didnt need emergency medication. Then I kept throwing up in between layoff nightmares. So excited to sit in my chair today and do it all over again. Happy Hunger Games.

People explained this on here weeks ago. 60 days notice is WARN act, not additional time for you to hang out around the water cooler. You were given six month notice to start looking for a new job and to say goodbye.

Removing access immediately is standard offboarding process for layoffs and involuntary termination. They aren’t going to pay you for two weeks to do no work and reminisce. Or sabotage systems and steal data. Or worse - destroy offices and equipment or commit acts of violence. Involuntary terminations are a major risk, so it’s better to just pay the people to not come back.

Not trying to sound callous, but it’s no different anywhere else, and it’s done for a very good reason.

Layoffs su-k, and I am sorry this happened to you.

@a4 I now will never recommend bringing assets here. I feel bad for us in HQ and the FAs and BOAs. Hopefully folks can go to a competitor that emulates what we used to be

@a6 that is really horrible. Im not a PP fan myself and obviously this is an incredible slap in the face to associates, but that is just a cruel thing to say. I'm not saying we always have to turn the other cheek but it costs us nothing to keep our grievances below the level of wishing someone a horrible devastating disease. Your anger is justified. All of our anger is justified. But this is uncalled for.

I feel for the team leads because how are they supposed to address it (if they even can?) after someone is told they receive ISP, demotion, etc? It's a losing situation for the leader. They are the ones who likely/hopefully have built a relationship with their team member and them being kept in the dark devalues the relationship.

The fact that nobody has a final number on any of this is what really makes this feel disgusting. Everything about this whole E.R circus feels dirty and immoral. P.P should resign in shame for what she has done to this company. We will never be the same after this, and we will never be able to have the same pull as the big g-ns on wall street. We will be nothing more than a cheap knock off.
