Thread regarding CVS layoffs

Let's Avoid Hostile & Toxic Environment

I may get downvoted but someone has to say it. This recent layoff has revealed that organization rewards:

  1. yes-people
  2. easy-to-work-with
  3. talking but knows when to shut up

and punishes:

  1. people asking questions to ensure less problems or errors in future
  2. wants to keep head down & focus on assigned work
  3. wants to pursue aspirations and not afraid to fail.

Having said that, this type of environment is never sustainable for org as well as people. So, my appeal to everyone is - let's be kind to each other, stop backstabbing and encourage people who want to help org by trying something different. Next few months & years are definitely going to be challenging but it's up to us how healthy or toxic culture we work under.

On the Aetna government side it's really a running joke on how long will this next leader will last. They always come in toteing how great they are and how they will be the hero to these losers who can't get their sh-t together. Like we are a bunch of mo--ns. Then they completely tear down everything down without trying to understand stand anything. They bring over whatever they last didn't their previous company or internal department and completely fk everything up and leave it worse off. Just so they can go on LinkInd to brag what they did to get a new title and more money somewhere else they don't last more than three years tops. So sick and tired of it.

I try the best I can to be nice to people period but beyond that it’s not my job to worry about the culture, I’m not in leadership and can’t do anything about it. Honestly my leadership for at least 2 levels up can’t do anything about it either.

Being fully honest, you absolutely need to know when you have to be part of the 1st group and when to be part of the second, figure what kind of leaders you have. Until you know be a yes-man in public and voice your concerns/issues in private only.

My only goal here is to get to at least the level where I can start getting equity and try to ride that train to retirement. If this layoff pattern keeps up that probably won’t be possible but I hope after 2-3 years there will be green shoots and better times. We’ll see.

The same could be said for last year’s layoffs as well. So many smart, experienced people with track records of getting things done for the right reasons, but who were also not afraid to make noise when needed were the first ones to go. The company was left in a much weaker position because of it, and now here we are again.

it's also pretty obvious that exec directors and above are only there to further their careers. they only focus on managing up and do not care about their teams or their people. toxic behaviors and frankly mean attitudes are tolerated, more here than anywhere else i've ever seen.

Agreed @OP+1uPTviZo. But something has to break before its fixed. If you want quality talent, and a healthy culture bring back the things and people that makes the company profit long term.

  • Fair competitive wages for all
  • Remote (for those who thrive in remote)
  • WAH (for those who thrive in WAH)
  • Hybrid (for those who thrive in Hybrid)
