Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

End ETW contracts and retain FTE!

End all the contracts of ETW’s and retain FTE’s should be new norm to success! No point in keeping temporary workers from xyz Company and laying full Time employees! Bad decision to lay off employees instead of temporary contractors! May be in FY24 Q4 or FY25 Q1?

Keeping the same ELT in leadership roles making the same bad decisions just continues to drag down the company and repeat a vicious downsizing cycle, ad infinitum. (I hear Shareholders just love that!) haha.
From a long-term, big-picture standpoint, eliminating ETWs, regardless of how 'easy' it may seem, is not a good solution. They are just executing well on deliverables dictated by a very heavy, expensive, upper echelon that could easily be pared down.

OP's probably the first person who should be let go because he/she feels entitled to job security just for being an FTE. I'm an FTE and it's up to me to prove I'm more valuable to my employer than others doing similar work. If an ETW is doing a better job than me, it makes no sense for Nike to keep me over the ETW. If as an FTE, you feel an ETW is a threat to your job, then you should find ways to bring more value to your team.

Contractors were greatly reduced in MSCT. Still the budgets are not making sense

As a very long time employee, ETWs have helped build this company as much as FTEs. Many have been on contract for years and many FTEs were previously ETWs.
Many ETWs have been used as buffers so you can keep your cushy job with great benefits.
I work with ETWs everyday for decades and they've had to retain certain goals, skills, etc., since they can easily be let go at anytime, unlike some of our FTEs that have gotten away with nonsense for years. It's people with your attitude that should have been shown the door years ago.

I hope you should be the first to lay off on Monday @OP .. with this mindset you don’t deserve to work at Nike .

People like this act like their friends and colleagues weren’t ETWs at some point! Sick mentality

People with this mentality are no better than the executives making these decisions. Protect yourself at the cost of others, right? You’re a part of the problem.

They hire ETWs because they do not have to pay unemployment and other taxes for contractors that they would for FTEs. They do not have to pay for their health benefits either, and all of the other perks that save them money.
They have extended the max amount of hours an ETW can serve before they have to take their mandated leave to 2 years.
They can hire ETWs fast, keep them for 2 years without having to pay the taxes on them, they can cut them easily, and have nothing to report to the state for layoffs, nothing for the media to report, and nothing for the shareholders to react panic about.
I hope that helps :-/

Yes , thats what it means ETW- External temp worker and not permanent to any company..to save further costs, looks like soon some big decisions will be made on ETW contracts after laying off FTE
