I cleaned my desk from personal items just in case! Anybody else?

Does it matter if one gets dumped by the employer in person or via zoom? The result is the same. It doesn’t matter if other people see you walk out. It’s not like you are going to be seeing them again. You don’t work there any more. In person you can look the people laying you off in eyes and not have to deal with sending in any laptops, phones or id. Receive the papers, negotiate right there if needed. Walk out and don’t look back.
Anyone wanting to get RIF’d in person is a psychopath. At least at home I can manage my own emotions, not have everyone see me having my conversation, knowing I’m finished.
At least there is some privacy now.
For the long career folks here (like me), I thought the days of driving home each day with my cardboard box of personal effects was over. We used to joke about knowing you weren't let go only when your badge stopped working, or if your computer login wasn't recognized.
The org designs and paperwork are not done yet. It will be on a Friday and via zoom based on past layoffs by February end. If you think the company wants crying or enraged people being escorted down the halls think again. They don’t have the stomach for that.

It might be over the course of a few weeks but it will be done by end of Q3 (February), per the earnings call.

Nope. You’re paranoid.
Layoffs will be in waves, lasting up to 3 months. They’ll likely start a week or two. But if you have a desk, it’s quite unlikely they’re gonna do it over zoom from home.
